Copying an item | Basic information Dragon's Dogma Guide

In this case, copying items does not involve an cheating. You can do this at the Black Cat shop, in an alley in the house district. The second dialogue option, during the conversation with the owner, allows you to pick one item from materials, tools and special categories, as well as ones that you have deposited with the innkeeper, which you want to be copied. The price that you have to pay for the copy depends on the value of the items and on the frequency of its occurrence in the game world. You need to wait for 24 hours for the copy and you can order only one item, at a time, to be copied. After 24 has passed, you receive back the genuine item and the copy after you pick the same dialogue option. What makes this option useful is that it allows you to duplicate rare items (e.g. ones that you loot from powerful beasts that you killed and that are required for upgrades of the most powerful weapons). Another way in which you can use this is copying quest items that cannot be obtained in any other way, for the second time.
What you need to know: not all of the items retain their properties, which is why you need to be careful. An example item that probably many players would want to copy is Portal Crystal, which you can deploy in any point on the map and teleport there. In spite of the astronomical amount that you need to pay for a copy (300 000 gold pieces), it is impossible to use it (the option is not available), so this is a sheer waste of money. Often, copies are one unit lighter than the genuine items.
For copying an item, you receive achievement The Knave.
