High Lord Wolnir Dark Souls III Guide
Last update: 11 May 2016
Touch the chalice after entering the room. You will be moved into impenetrable darkness. The only glowing point in front of you will be an item on the ground. Quickly pick it up (Grave Warden Pyromancy Tome) before the battle starts. High Lord Wolnir is vulnerable to weapons dealing "holy" damage, having one of these will be very helpful. On the other hand, defeating the boss takes less time if you destroy the bracelets on his hands - for doing that a weapon with maximum physical damage will be the best.
Note: Killing the boss is possible without destroying the bracelets, hand attacks also deal damage. However, if you want to end the duel as fast as possible, you should hit the bracelets - destroying those deals Wolnir very high damage and destroying all of them will lead to immediately winning the battle.
During the battle Wolnir will summon smaller enemies (skeletons) to help him. What's interesting, the number of summoned opponents increase as the bracelets are destroyed. Because of that you must act quickly unless you want to be surrounded. Slightly stronger enemies can join the battle if you leave Wolnir with the final bracelet for too long. Luckily, you don't need to worry too much about the skeletons because boss' attacks usually kill them immediately. In case of trouble simply wait for him to clean the arena with a single swipe.
As for the other attacks of the boss: watch out for the fog that deals high number of damage. From time to time it will appear around the boss who can also spit it at you. During the battle you should avoid getting close to enemy's ribs as the fog is there permanently. On the other hand, don't get too far away from the boss. This will make him jump towards you. If he does it few times, you will be blocked between him and the wall. This will make it harder to perform dodges and to escape the poison fog. It is best to remain slightly ahead of the boss so that you can perform dodge when needed and attack the bracelets when he drops his hands on the ground.
The mentioned golden bracelets should be your main target. First focus on the single one - boss' right hand is on the ground less often, making it easier for you to destroy it during the first phase of the battle. The two bracelets that are close to each other are slightly easier to destroy since the boss holds this hand on the ground more frequently. In addition to that, when using a long range weapon you will probably damage two bracelets simultaneously, thus greatly speeding the battle up. Watch out when Wolnir has none of his hands on the ground - when that happens he usually summons a large sword which deals great damage on the area surrounding him. Luckily, physical attacks (the mentioned sword and a paw hit) can be successfully blocked with a good shield.
Summary: the quickest way to defeat the boss is by destroying his bracelets. Escape from the poisonous fog and don't get under the boss' ribs where the fog is present all the time. Physical attacks can be successfully blocked. You shouldn't worry about the skeletons because the boss usually kills them by himself.
