Curse-Rotted Greatwood Dark Souls III Guide
Last update: 11 May 2016
Draw your attention to a group of creatures praying at the tree. The real fight will begin once you slay few of them, or get close enough to the boss. It's best to kill at least some of them before you face Greatwood. However, as soon as the creature is brought to life, focus on it.
Remember: due to the fact that you won't be able to block its attacks, you may as well give up the shield. Furthermore, you will be more effective in light armor, as agility is key to success in this fight.
Our priority is to move on to the second stage of the fight as quickly as possible (the boss will damage the floor, thus fight in the lower part of the area). Why you may ask? Because Curse-Rotted Greatwood will summon more and more enemies that will make the fight a living hell. You want to focus on Greatwood, and to be specific, on its blebs. Destroying them will take about 30% of its HP and begin the second stage. Once you land in the lower part of the location, enemies will not be summoned anymore.
Regardless of the stage, watch out for blows that the boss performs with its massive torso. This includes firing missiles that explode when they hit their targets, and pulling towards the creature. The latter one is easy to predict, so you should have enough time to dodge, right after Curse-Rotted Greatwood lifts its enormous body. When you get to a safe position, it will try to strike with one of its limbs (stay close to reach one of its blebs). Notice that blebs are situated on its limbs as well, but the one in the middle is the biggest and the easiest to hit at the beginning. Striking any other part of Greatwood's body will deal no damage at all.
The second part of the struggle is similar but easier, due to the lack of other opponents. On the other hand, the creature will now have a limb coming out of its torso. The beast will use the same attacks but can catch you with its powerful arm if you stay too long in one position. Keep on striking blebs situated on the limbs and the torso. Spin around the boss and don't lock the camera on it. Stay close to the creature and move away when the beast lifts its heavy torso or turns towards you (it will try to catch you with its arm right after that). Destroy all the blebs and you will eliminate the monster.
