Types of items to find | Hints Thief Guide
Last update: 11 May 2016
During his adventures, Garrett can find a and buy four different kinds of items:
1) Loot - in each location, there are a dozen-or-so, or even tens of regular items and the value of each is expressed in gold. Some of the items (e.g. knives or pens) are only worth several gold pieces. But there are ones (e.g. telescope) which are worth tens or even hundreds of gold pieces. I recommend that you explore areas in detail and gather this kind of items, especially if you are playing at a higher difficulty level and you need to deal with the increased prices on goods that you buy.
2) Collectibles - each one of the 80 collectibles is unique because they have their own names and descriptions. Also, it is possible to review the items that you obtain, each time Garrett returns to this clock tower. Unfortunately, only selected collectibles are calculated into their value in gold. The remaining ones are "priceless" and they do not add to the amount of gold that you have.
3) Documents - In the game, you can find more than 200 documents and they are divided into a dozen-or-so categories. Some of these (e.g. letters), appear only once throughout the game, whereas the others (e.g. newspapers) can be found in several different locations. Documents are never calculated into gold but, after you read them, you will learn more about the world around you, or you may even get some valuable hints concerning the whereabouts of the most valuable loot.
4) Elements of the equipment - this category is mainly made up of food, poppy and various arrows, bombs and throwables. Many of these objects can be found during free exploration of the game world, but you can also buy them from traders. I recommend that you decide on this step only in a situation when you urgently need some item (e.g. rope arrows to get to an inaccessible spot). In the remaining situations, it is better to spend your gold on unique gadgets (e.g. keys or a better lockpick), as well as the other permanent upgrades.
