Challenge maps promote haste, good knowledge of the area and avoiding enemies

Challenge Maps are connected with an additional game mode, called Challenge Mode, which is available in the main menu. The primary objective of this mode is the possibility to test your skills in extreme situations and it is aimed at those of the players who have already squeezed the main campaign mode dry and look for few challenges. At this point, it is worth adding that the Challenge Mode is completely independent of the main storyline. It does not reward you with any gold or collectibles, but provides you with the opportunity to fight for the best score possible and obtain an achievement.

each one of the available maps can be played in accordance with one of the three available rule sets. In the Chain & Gain mode, the key to succeeding is finding, and collecting, regular items within short spans of time (the maximum time to collect the next loot is 60 seconds) which contributes to increasing the score multiplier. Special Loot Hunt is a mode, in which Garrett hunts for a specific loot and tries to find it by following the instructions on the screen. In this mode, it is also possible to collect additional coins, which extend the time limit. The final challenge is the Chain & Gain Limited and it differs from the regular Chain & Gain in that it counts the combined amounts of time, which makes scoring well even more difficult.

Regardless of which rule set you select, you need to keep in mind that the first several attempts on the map ends up with a mediocre score. This is so, because the Challenge mode awards good knowledge of the map, especially with the focus on finding loot (standard or special) and of the areas patrolled by the enemies. The current challenge does not end in automatic failure, at the moment at which alarm is raised, but it punishes you with points. As a result (just like in the case of the main campaign mode) it is a good idea to avoid coming into contact with the enemy and, as a result restrict yourself to stealing their coin purses.
