Explore the first floor and the attic of the Baron's estate - description | Chapter 6: A Man Apart Thief Guide
Last update: 11 May 2016
Just like in the case of the ground floor, described above, on the first floor of the villa [Northcrest Manor - Second Floor] there are three main staircases (the Northern, the Southern and the one in the library), thanks to which you can start the exploration in the place that you choose yourself (again, I recommend the unguarded stairs). What is interesting, on this floor, there are no guards. Around, there are more traps that are connected to pressure plates, and it is a good idea to disarm them, by reaching the boxes, marked on the map on the previous page. Two of such boxes are in the Northern corridor with traps and they have been marked in the above screenshot. You can reach the box on the left by climbing onto the nearby object. When it comes to the one on the right, you need to start climbing at the Northern staircase and use the wrench twice, on the grates, while still moving along the narrow planks under the ceiling. To sabotage all of the boxes you, of course, need to use the wirecutter.
In the Northern part of the villa, there are two smaller rooms - another bedroom and the study. In the bedroom, you can find an Ink Bottle - 8G, a Letter Opener - 6G, a Perfume Bottle - 25G, a Coin Purse - 20G and a note (Baron Northcrest - Vivian). When it comes to the study, in there, there is a Pocket Portrait - 10G, a Watch Medal - 30G and a note (Baron Northcrest - The Awakened).
Just like the lower floor of the villa, on the first floor is the large library [Northcrest Manor - Library], where there are stairs to the ground floor and door between the Northern and the Southern parts of the building (it is a good thing to take them to avoid the traps in the Western corridors). The upper floor of the library is not guarded by anyone, although you still need to watch out for bird cages. When it comes to the list of the items that you can find here, there are an Ink Bottle - 8G, a Letter Opener - 6G, a Pocket Portrait - 10G (at the stairs), a Chess Piece - 10G, a book (Baron Northcrest - Coronation) and a map (Manor Floor Plan) connected with reaching the secret chamber in the villa (more about this on the page entitled Find and explore the secret chamber).
While exploring the Western corridors and rooms, watch out for a new set of traps and remember about locating the boxes, and using the wirecutter on them. Apart from the painting connected with the secret chamber (more about this on the page entitled Find and explore the secret chamber), in the location, there also are a Pocket Portrait - 10G, a letter (Steward's Letter), two Baron's Busts - 25+60G, a Letter Opener - 6G, a Coin Purse - 17G, a note (Baron Northcrest - Sterility) and a book (Baron Northcrest - Reunited). The Southern part of the first floor is the upper floor of the waiting hall [Northcrest Manor - Waiting Hall]. There are no more enemies nor loot here. Still, there are stairs to the tower here, i.e. to your current destination point (more about this further in this chapter).
The attic of the estate [Northcrest Manor - Attic] is not too big. If, during the exploration of the gardens, you have chosen variant C (climbing up the rope, then this is the place where you start the exploration of the estate. Otherwise, the only way to reach the attic is to use the Northern staircase. Keep vigilant here, because there is a single guard patrolling the attic. You can try hiding in the shadows, or use throwables to your aid, although it is also possible to use the wooden beams under the ceiling. When it comes to loot, apart from the guard's Coin Purse - 9G you can also find another Coin Purse - 27G, a Gilded Bottle - 40G, a Letter Opener - 6G and a letter (Guard's Letter) here.
