Access the cathedral | Chapter 7: The Hidden City Thief Guide

You start in the corridor near the yard around the cathedral [The Old Cathedral - Courtyard]. Climb onto the ledge above and walk into a larger location. The first step to take is approaching the main part of the yard and you can take one of two available routes. The first variant assumes that you use lockpicks onto the gate located to the West of the starting point. This will allow Garrett to start the exploration of the yard, away from the opponents.
The second variant assumes that you reach the tunnel, a bit more to the South. I recommend that, at the same time, you explore the area in more detail, thanks to which you will find a Flask - 8G. If you, additionally, explore the cave to the South (there are stairs leading up to it) you will obtain a Poppy and a Coin Purse - 12G.
Regardless of which variant you chose, you will get to the yard guarded by a numerous group of opponents so, take a careful look around and plan on the steps to take next. At this point, it is worth adding that the flashes of lightning will make it a bit more difficult to stay in shadows, because they will be shedding light on Garret, for a fraction of second and, as a result, he may be spotted, if there is someone looking his way at that moment. Therefore, try to avoid remaining out in the open, even if it seems, at first, that there is no threat.
I have already mentioned that the yard is, unfortunately, being watched by, as many as, five guards which means, of course, that you need to be on your guard. Do not attempt to put out the huge bonfire in the center of the yard, because the water arrows are too small for that task. Still, you may try putting out the smaller bonfires although, you need to keep in mind that the enemies may react to that and start the fire again. This is not the end to your problems, because you also need to watch out for the birdcage in the Southern part of the yard (do not use swoop here) and for the guard with the crossbow, up on the Northern balcony (you can get there by using the rope arrow on the interactive catch, who keeps an eye on the area.
If you have nothing against securing the area slowly, bit by bit, you can attempt rob the guards of their Coin Purses - 9+9+12+9+2+2+17+15G, by using throwables or distracting the enemies by walking over broken glass. Apart from that, in the area, you can find a Coin Purse - 22G, three Sawtooth Arrows and a Choke Arrow. In the Western part of the yard, there also is scaffolding, shown in the above screenshot watch out for the birdcage!), which you can easily reach after you put out the nearby torch. This scaffolding leads to the cathedras' main entrance but, I recommend against taking it, because you will miss some of the loot in the cathedral.
It is a much better idea to reach the side entrance to the cathedral and to do that, you need to make it over to the side yard, in the first place, located to the South of your current location, You will probably have the most problems with walking around all the guards safely - you can put out some of the sources of light or use a throwable to distract them. Depending on which you prefer, you can cross a small building or take the narrow passage between that building and the cathedral. On your way to the side yard, also explore the area. In the cottage, there is a note (Storehouse Note) and a Pile of Coins - 5G. Additionally, at the narrow passage there is a venting shaft. Opening the shaft (requires the wrench) will give you access to a small room with a Syringe - 10G and a Pile of Coins - 20G.
Both of the paths, given above, will take Garrett to the side yard. Wait for the enemies here to finish their conversation and walk away. Try to rob the opponents of their Coin Purses - 21+5G and wait for a suitable moment to climb onto the crates here. After you mount the crates, you will be able to reach the upper path. Go West and turn to the North. After you reach the unguarded side area, jump down and collect the Cup - 2G and a Flask - 4G. Finally, climb onto the crates and reach the hole in the cathedral's wall, shown in the above screenshot, thanks to which you will walk into that building.
