One of the most important optional boss fights in The Thaumaturge is the clash with Salutor Morana from the Horses in the Sky side quest. The walkthrough from our guide explains how to provoke Morana into a fight, how to react to negative states imposed by the boss, and how to tame Salutor with support from Rasputin.
Where is Morana?
Morana is one of Salutors that you cannot tame as part of the main storyline. You must deal with the optional plotline concerning the serial killer known as The Fisherman, who is active in Powisle. Quests to complete:
- The Art of Dying - Morana will appear to Wiktor at the very beginning of this quest (picture).
- Horses in the Sky - Wiktor must free Kajetan (the person with the Flaw) from prison to be able to provoke Morana to appear.
Both mentioned quests are time-limited. Neglecting them and concentrating solely on the main plot could cause you to miss the opportunity to recruit Salutor Morana. We suggest addressing this thread in Act 1 and continuing to make progress as soon as the game allows.
- In the final part of the Horses in the Sky quest, Wiktor will visit Kajetan in his house in the Powisle district - this will only be possible after a phone call from Pelevin (the beginning of Act 2).
- Kajetan's Flaw will be revealed and the result will be the start of a fight with Morana.
How to defeat Morana?
- The basic premise of the clash with Morana is the same as other Salutors - Wiktor must attack the shadows instead of the main boss. Eliminating every shadow will deplete a portion of Morana's health.
- Match your Salutors to the characteristics of your opponents. If you don't have a developed Dimension, for instance, rely on Suffering to gradually reduce enemies' health points.
- Morana has the ability to affect the actions of those involved in the battle. The boss will initially speed up the opponents' movements thanks to the In Death's Embrace action so they can attack a round earlier. It's crucial to efficiently get rid of them one by one.
- Much more problematic is the boss's second skill - Morana can slow down Wiktor's attacks thanks to the action The Price of Peace. This presents a significant problem, as even a single basic attack from the protagonist can then take several rounds. In the meantime, Wiktor will be attacked multiple times by shadows (and again by Morana).
- The best tactic to combat this negative status is to use the Liberum Veto skill (Salutor Upyr - removing all negative states from Wiktor) or the Mournful Tones skill (Salutor Lelek - transferring Wiktor's current negative states to the opponent).
Rewards for defeating the boss
- After defeating Morana, you must also meet with Rasputin - visit him in the Powazki Cemetery. This may take place as part of the main quest Children of Satan in Act 2.
- Rasputin's help will allow him to tame Morana, and only then can the Salutor take part in battles on Victor's side. New Mind Dimension abilities will become available too.
- You'll also get XP and unlock the Negligence Flaw (dealing double damage if Wiktor has no more than 9 health points).
