In the Abyss is the title of the main quest from the Citadel escape in The Thaumaturge game. This page of the walkthrough shows you how to leave the cell in the Citadel, how to behave during the interrogation and where to find Ivan's office and his father's grimoire.

During In the Abyss story quest of The Thaumaturge, Wiktor ends up in Citadel as a prisoner and is subjected to intense interrogations. On this page of our guide, you can find a complete walkthrough for the task, showing how to initiate further developments while remaining in the cell, what possible choices there are during the interrogation of Wiktor, how to retrieve Father's Grimoire, and how to escape the Citadel.
Unlocking the quest
- This task is initiated right with the conclusion of the previous The Devil's Gambit story quest.
- After leaving the church, Wiktor will be stopped by police officers - the situation escalates into a combat sequence. You can optionally ask Michal for help and you'll receive him as a temporary companion for the duration of the fighting. There are 2 group of policemen to defeat (the second appears as reinforcements after defeating the first group).
- After the battle, Wiktor will be officially arrested. The hero lands in a cell in the Citadel, losing his revolver and grimoire.
Waiting for the events to unfold
- Talk to Michal and with the conversation, the Interrogations observation will be unlocked.
- There are 2 observations to collect while in the cell - Scratched Wall and Bunk. This will unlock Little Hell conclusion.
- To proceed with the events, you need to sit on the bottom bunk (screenshot above). Before you're taken for interrogation, you can talk to Janek or ignore him completely.
- The interrogation will be initially led by Ivan Konechkin. You can answer the questions, stay silent, or irritate Ivan and constantly ask about the Grimoire (Pride dialogue options), but the effect will be the same in every variant.
- Madame Samira will appear in the interrogation room. During this part of the interrogation, you can tell everything you're asked or try to conceal your thoughts - these are various special dialogue options that require different strength of various Dimensions (example in the screenshot).
- The end of this scene is always the same regardless of what dialogue options you choose - Samira will initiate an escape from the Citadel by incapacitating Ivan (Samira's Secrets observation). Victor will recover the revolver and his grimoire.
Finding father's Grimoire
- After leaving the interrogation room, proceed to the stairs and climb two stories to reach the top floor of the Citadel.
- After entering Ivan's office, you can activate Perception and find various traces - these are Stanislaw's File, The Okhrana's Archives, Wiktor's File, Ligia's Photograph, Samira's File, Ligia's File, and Teacup. Finding these traces will unlock The Lion's Den, The Cat and the Canary and Peculiar Interests observations.
- Father's Grimoire is on then northern table between windows - we show it in the screenshot. You can pick it up right away or take a look inside (Heart Dimension dialogue option). During the ensuing conversation with Samira you can mention her file and additionally express your desire to free Janek.
Escaping the Citadel
- Leave the office and go down the stairs to the lower level. A group of policemen will stop you and you need to fight them.
- Go to the western exit and proceed in the direction of the gate. There will be one more group of policement to defeat.
- This is followed up by conversations with various allies. After the conversations you will start a new main quest - Something Ends, Something Begins.
