While playing The Thaumaturge, you may have problems defeating more difficult opponents and this is where the option to lower the difficulty level may be the solution. On this page of our guide, we list all difficulty levels along with their assumptions and answer the question whether you can change the difficulty level in the middle of the story campaign.
How to change the difficulty level?
- In The Thaumaturge, you do not begin the game by choosing the difficulty level. Instead, you start with the default difficulty, which is Balanced.
- After initiating the campaign, you can change the difficulty level at any moment from the pause menu. This is a great way to make matters easier if e.g. you're facing a boss or a hardened group of enemies and want to facilitate things. After winning a problematic fight on a lower difficulty level, you can keep playing on it or return to the previous setting.
- To do that, go to Gameplay tab, where you'll find the Difficulty level option (screenshot above). You can adjust the difficulty with side arrows.
- After starting the game, at some point, the game will suggest changing the difficulty level and you can consider this as a part of the tutorial.
- This is because, in the final part of the prologue, the main hero has to face the first Salutor - boss Bukavac. The game will suggest adjusting the difficulty level because this is the first longer and more challenging battle in the campaign.
List of difficulty levels
In The Thaumaturge you can choose from 3 difficulty levels. These are;
- Story - with this setting, the emphasis is put on experiencing the story, with mandatory battles from the main campaign being made much easier. Opponents deal less damage, while the attacks of Victor and his allied Salutors are considerably more powerful.
- Balanced - This is the default setting and is equivalent to the normal difficulty level. While playing in this setting, clashes can still pose some challenge and you have to respond to threats with, for example, choosing the correct skills and Salutors, although you should not encounter extremely difficult battles.
- Challenge - This is the final difficulty level that requires knowing the battle system inside and out, and additionally involving correct preparations for clashes. To maintain progress in this setting, you need to efficiently juggle the skills of Wiktor and his Salutors, as well as play the battles without mistakes, correctly reacting to attacks and unique abilities of the enemies. In our opinion, this is the recommended difficulty level for future playthroughs, after getting well acquainted with all the mechanics of the game.
