Does Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth continue the plot of the previous games? You can ask yourself this question when wondering whether the game requires knowledge of the entire series. In the guide, we explain whether you can immediately start playing Infinite Wealth without any problems, or whether it's worth getting to know some of the older parts of the Yakuza series first.
There are no spoilers for Infinite Wealth here. We also tried to present a general overview of the important events from previous installments of the series, which are continued in Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth.
How old is Kiryu in Infinite Wealth?
- Kazuma Kiryu's age isn't mentioned anywhere in Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth. Based on Kiryu's birth date (1968) and the dates of events presented since reaching Hawaii, it can be calculated that Kiryu should be 55 years old.
Familiarity with previous Yakuza/Like a Dragon games
Infinite Wealth is closely related to the previous installments of the series. The plot continues selected threads from the previous parts of the series. These include the consequences of dissolving the criminal organizations Tojo Clan and Omi Alliance, or Kiryu's fate since starting a cooperation with the Daidoji Faction.
We do not recommend starting your adventure with Yakuza/Like a Dragon series with Infinite Wealth. You may have significant problems understanding some events, and you also won't recognize many important characters and their significance to the plot.
In our opinion, the minimum requirements before playing Infinite Wealth are:
- Completing Yakuza Like a Dragon, the seventh installment of the series and the first game starring Kasuga Ichiban as the main character. You'll get to know the beginning of his adventure and meet all of his friends who also return in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth.
- Completing Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name. This is a smaller installment of the Like a Dragon series, which focuses on Kiryu and the events that took place after the finale of Yakuza 6. By completing this game, you will reach the place where Kiryu is at the beginning of his adventure in Infinite Wealth.
- Yakuza 6: The Song of Life is optional, but also recommended. By playing that game, you will learn about the events that forced Kazuma to fake his death and collaborate with the Daidoji organization.
In Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, you will also find many smaller connections to earlier parts of the series, including Yakuza 0, which takes place in the 1980s. While playing Infinite Wealth, you can meet many old friends or have sequences that will remind Kiryu of important events from his rich past.
