Scan the area with Revelio
You learn the Revelio spell at the very beginning of Hogwarts Legacy, during your meeting with professor Weasley. Casting the spell highlights all secrets and important items nearby. Use it often, as it reveals valuable chests, puzzles and secret doors. It can also expose items obscured with objects or walls.
Objects highlighted in blue may be locked padlocks, requiring a specific spell or meeting a level requirement to open. Items crucial for puzzles as well as collectibles all glow blue.
Yellow signifies chests, sacks and coin pouches. Once you get familiar with scanning, you should be able to easily tell what you've just found by the item's shape and color.
Use the compass
Hogwarts Castle is a massive building with an intricate internal structure. Due to the complicated combinations of stairs, passages, corridors and rooms it's easy to get lost. The magic compass, acquired early on in the game, comes in handy then.
The Charmed Compass lets you mark a spot on the map you want to head to. The route there is always visible on the mini-map. Pressing an appropriate button also reveals directions on the screen.
Use the compass whenever you need to quickly reach a mission objective or an unexplored room. The compass also works outside the castle, on your broomstick or a mounted magical creature.
Search the chests
Ordinary chests detectable by Revelio come in different shapes and sizes. Their contents are always random. They contain coins, clothes or even potions.
There are a ton of chests hidden all throughout the game. Some of them are out in plain sight, others are hidden behind objects or in hard-to-reach rooms.
You won't ever be punished for theft - each chest, even those found in Hogsmeade shops, people's houses or even student and teacher rooms can be opened freely.
Eye chests contain great riches!
There are several types of chests in Hogwarts Legacy. Regular chests don't require any keys or spells to open. Eye chests are a bit more challenging. They are worth the effort though, as they contain 500 gold each!
In addition to their distinguishing moving eye, the chest can move and hop around while making loud noises. This makes them easy to find even without casting Revelio.
To access their contents you must be invisible. This can be done via casting the camouflage spell, learned right after your first visit to Hogsmeade. You can also drink an invisibility potion.
No matter which method you choose, you must be a bit persistent and patient. If the chest notices you (starts tracking your movement), you won't be able to sneak up on it even after you become invisible. You must then walk away to a certain distance and wait for it to look somewhere else.
You'll learn more on how to deal with these chests on the page: How to open eye chests?
Collect Field Guide Pages
There are over 200 Field Guide Pages in Hogwarts Legacy. They are the only collectibles rewarding you with experience. Finding them is an easy way to level up quickly.
The pages are divided into several types. Some of them fly in the air, others hide in the environment or inside statues. Cast Revelio whenever you enter a new place or room to make sure you don't miss any collectibles.
For more detailed information on the types of pages, check the How to find Field Guide Pages? page.
Look for better clothes
Carefully searching visited areas and opening all regular chests encountered should quickly reward you with new clothes. They don't only change your appearance but also increase your two main stats.
Leveling up only increases health. Clothes and other equipment increase your offence and defence. You can also upgrade and modify your clothes and wands.
Complete side quests
Progressing through the main story in Hogwarts Legacy unlocks new side missions and optional activities. Optional content rewards you with experience and new equipment.
You should check your map often to see whether there are any new quests available. You can also check notifications on the mini-map, as passing by each optional activity marks it there.
Check recommended levels
Each main quest, side quest and activity has a level requirement. The levels of individual regions inform you about the levels of enemies encountered there.
Always check the quest level and the location level to avoid an unpleasant surprise afterwards. This should spare you some time and frustration.
