Current experience level
In Hogwarts Legacy, your hero can advance to new experience levels.
The easiest way to check your current level is from the pause menu, and it is also briefly displayed in the upper left corner each time you receive XP. The gradually filling bar shows how much XP you need to ascend to a new experience level.
Experience level cap - maximum level
Your character can reach up to level 40 during the entire campaign, and this will be rewarded with A Forte for Achievement gold trophy.
If you want to complete the entire storyline (including the end of the school year), then expect that your character will have to reach at least level 34. Fortunately, the level requirements for story missions increase relatively slowly. There shouldn't be a situation where the next main quest will require you to develop your character by 4-5 levels.
Rewards for leveling up
The rewards for each level-up are:
- Health bar extended - you receive additional HP.
- 1 Talent Point - these are not available from the beginning - you need to complete Jackdaw's Rest story quest to unlock obtaining them. Don't worry - at that moment, you'll be reimbursed for "overdue" levels. Talent Points are spent on Talents - various passive abilities.

Required and recommended experience levels
The experience levels not only affects the hero, but also the world of the game, available missions, and encountered enemies.
Received quests may have:
- A certain level of experience required - you cannot take on a particular mission before you reach the required experience level.
- Recommended experience level - you can take on a given quest, but expect problems, such as encountering higher-level enemies which will be tough to defeat if on a lower experience level.
Equipment you find also has level requirements - the higher the level, the higher chance of good base statistics. A lower quality level 20 item may outperform a level 10-15 legendary item.
The hero cannot equip items that have a higher experience level than his own . If you find such an item, leave it in the inventory until you reach the needed level.
World Map regions are also described with levels, and you can view them by highlighting a given region (the camera must be far away enough).
Avoid visiting regions of higher level too early - because you may have problems completing quests or optional activities or even just exploring. Visit them only after advancing to the minimum level of the region.
Enemies also have experience levels :
- The game attempts to scale the enemy level to your level. For example, if you are level 17 and you are exploring a region marked with levels 1-20, there is a good chance of encountering monsters from levels 16-17. This is to provide a proper challenge even in standard fights.
- Entering a high-level region will cause you to encounter higher-level enemies . The game warns about this in a red font next to the monster's health bar (example in the screenshot). It may be difficult to defeat such an enemy and it will be safer to run away from him.
In conclusion, always ensure that the level of the challenge coincides with your current capabilities.. Leave the more difficult quests and regions for later and level up the character in areas that you can explore without fear of sudden death.
