Hogwarts Legacy has a fully-fledged day and night cycle as a feature, so you'll experience smooth transitions from day to night and night to day. On this page, we show whether you can manually change the current time of the day e.g. by accelerating the passage of time to transition to nighttime instantly. Moreover, we answer the question whether changing the time of day has any practical use e.g. in terms of the availability of secrets or accessing locations in the world.
Day and night cycle
One of the features of Hogwarts Legacy is the full 24-hour cycle i.e. changes to night to day and day to night appear over time and are involuntary. Fortunately, you don't have to wait for the time of day to change, as there is an option to force the transition.
Fast-forwarding
You can fast-forward time from the map window . This is very simple - after opening the map window, just press the Wait button (R3 on consoles). You should see a message confirming your choice.
You don't have to manually adjust the time before starting a quest that takes place at a given time.
Simply, after reaching the starting area of the quest, stand in a displayed circle and confirm your willingness to wait the required amount of time.
Changing the time of day - uses
The main reason you may have to change the time of day is that some collectibles and activities are only available at certain times of the day. Most of the time, we are talking about night-time activities.
The best examples here are Demiguise Statues which are a category of collectibles. Interacting with them yield Demiguise Moons which can only be harvested at night. At daytime, these statues cannot be interacted with.
Another use you may have for changing the time of day could be situations where you need to sneak into a castle location, which preferably should be done at night. This way you'll be able to explore previously unavailable areas, but the hero has to use Disillusionment to remain undetected.
