Demon's Souls Remake: Swamp of Sorrow (5-2) - walkthrough Demons Souls PS5 guide, walkthrough
Last update: 02 August 2021
On this page of the guide to Demon's Souls Remake you will learn how to complete chapter (5-2), Valley of Defilement in Swamp of Sorrow.
After defeating the Leechmonger, head forward to get to the next location, the Swamp of Sorrow. Two rings will be helpful in exploring this location. The first ring allows you to move faster in deep water. It is very important, because in most cases the swamp will slow you down. The second ring that you should equip increases the resistance to poison, because the swamp will slowly poison you.
After passing a few dozen meters, you will see a huge gap. Wooden bridges will be on the right. Use them to cross to the other side and keep going.
You will encounter enemies from the earlier location on your way. Defeat them one by one to avoid falling from a high altitude by accident.
A little further, on the lower step is an object to pick up, the Noble's Lotus. Once you get it, you can easily go up.
On the other side there is a path with a wooden footbridge set vertically - this is a shortcut that you can unlock later. For now, ignore this location and jump down.
Being in the swamp will cause your character to become poisoned after a while. Therefore, it is important to go to the surface as quickly as possible, since it's not covered with poisonous sludge.
In the swamp there are many new enemies, which can be seen in the photo. Most of them are dead, but some will move in your direction. Their main attack involves spreading spikes within a short radius around them. They are easy to kill, especially when you have a fire weapon, but together, they are quite strong. Fight them in small groups.
On the right, among other things, you will find a ring that will regenerate a small amount of health over time. Then, instead of going forward towards your enemies, go left, picking up all the objects that you find there.
Remember to go on land as often as you can to keep yourself from getting poisoned. Follow the shining objects - there you will find e.g. healing items, mage weapon and materials for weapon upgrades.
On the other side of the swamp, however, there is a red phantom that will attack you if you get too close. The phantom fights with a two-handed weapon, so blocking its attacks is not worth it. When the enemy attacks, dodge to move behind his back, and then perform an attack of your own; this way, you will stun the enemy every time. After defeating the NPC, collect the items from his body and from the further part of the swamp.
Other items that you will be able to pick up after defeating or avoiding the red phantom include the Cat Ring, weapon upgrade materials, and black pine that will allow you to apply the fire effect to your weapon.
After picking up the items, head towards the central swamp. You will encounter more enemies that you can ignore. However, closer to the fog you will come across a larger enemy, who is worth defeating.
He is located near the hearths. Be careful, because the enemy is surrounded with smaller versions of himself. It's best to take care of the smaller ones first, and fighting the big one only afterwards.
When you're done, pick up the object nearby - it's a large mace. Then go towards the fog.
As you pass through the fog, you should equip the bow, as you're about to encounter a new type of enemy. These are large insects, which are very easy to take out specifically with a bow (or crossbow). The bow, however, is faster. Therefore, if you do not have any magic, equip the bow and start shooting at the insects from a safe distance. They are not difficult to kill with white weapons, but the location is so narrow that fighting them this way can easily cause you to fall.
Going further up the wooden bridge, watch out for more enemies that will appear in quite large groups. It's best to fight them from a safe distance, but if you can't avoid close-combat, fight as few of them at once as possible.
When you finally reach the very end, jump to the lower levels.
When you fall, the main path will lead you to a few insects. First, however, turn around and go the other way, into the swamp.
As you go to the other side, pick up more items that are in the swamp, but beware of the poisoning level. There, you'll find the Thief's Ring and the best healing item.
Going deeper into the swamp, you will encounter four larger enemies, which are difficult to defeat all at once. Therefore, a good choice would be to use a bow/crossbow or magic to lure each of them separately and fight them one on one. Repeat until you defeat all creatures.
Then go to where the creatures were to pick up 3x Ephemeral eyes. Once you've done that, go back to where you saw the insects.
After defeating the insects, a little further you will encounter more enemies - snails. There's a lot of them, so fighting them can be a challenge. Killing them is not worth it, because each defeated snail is replaced with another. Instead, pick up the object that is behind them - a weapon upgrade material.
Remember the snails location, because there's a quest linked to them that will give you a very rare weapon. For now, though, go to the right of the snails. There, you will encounter more enemies, both larger and smaller. After defeating them, on the right side you will notice the fog, but first go left.
There's a swamp to the left, but you will have to cross through it to complete the snail quest. Go towards the bridge and pick up the object.
You'll encounter a few enemies up there. Defeat them, and then approach the great column made of snails. It was this column that kept the snails coming down. You have to attack it several times until the whole column falls down. When that happens, go back to where you fought the snails.
Once you're there, defeat all snails located below. Inside is the Large Sword of Moonlight. When you pick it up, go back to where the fog was and walk through it.
After passing through the fog, go a little further, and you will once again meet the Filthy Woman from whom you can buy various items. Talk to her and buy items that will apply the fire effect to your weapons, because this will come in handy during the next boss fight.
Then, go towards the collapsed fortifications. You will encounter a large number of standard enemies there, so again, it's best to fight them one by one.
After defeating most of the enemies, focus on eliminating the one, who attacks with green spells, because he will poison you regularly.
You can also jump down towards the wooden balks that support the fortification. There, you will find many things, including 4 healing items that restore the whole health and remove unwanted effects, such as poisoning.
At the bottom you will also find the Shaman's Set, but watch out for another enemy who will use poisonous magic.
Stick to the right side as you're going up and fighting the enemies. First of all, go to the place visible in the screenshot, because by going there, you will unlock the shortcut from the beginning of the location, which will make your way to this very spot much shorter in case you die.
If you go towards the shortcut, however, watch out for the enemies. When you get there, kick the wooden bridge and go back the way you came..
As you go towards the fog, pay attention to the rooms located next to it, because enemies will appear there.
When you collect all the items, go to the fog to start the boss fight against the Dirty Colossus. A walkthrough of the boss fight can be found on a separate page of the guide.
