Demon's Souls Remake: Prison of Hope (3-1) - walkthrough Demons Souls PS5 guide, walkthrough
Last update: 21 July 2021
On this page of the guide to Demon's Souls Remake you will find out how to complete chapter (3-1), Tower of Latria, in Prison of Hope.
Once you've teleported to the Tower of Latria, you'll arrive at the first checkpoint. Coming out of the cell, on the right side you will notice a door, which, unfortunately, you will not open - they serve as a shortcut. Regardless, go that way to collect one of the items.
Some cells can be opened, some can't. Some cells require a key that is assigned to a particular floor. Now go left and forward.
On the left you will notice the first enemy - it is a humanoid with the head of an octopus. This is a very powerful enemy, watch out for his magic attacks, which hurt you really bad. The most important thing is to avoid getting hit with his green lightnings. If that happens, you won't be able to move for a long time, and the enemy will deal you a lot of damage. When you get caught in this trap, make a dodge as soon as you can, because then the enemy will perform a magic attack. Attack him from behind. If you use magic, take him out with magic or fire, simultaneously avoiding the enemy's magic attacks.
After defeating the enemy, destroy the wooden coffins to collect the soul. Next to the wooden coffins is a key that you can pick up. With it, you will open the cells located on the floor you're currently on.
Open the cells but watch out for the regular enemies. Some will not attack you, others will. It is best to kill everyone because of the souls. Then keep going until you see a corridor on your left. Before you go there, though, head straight ahead.
In one of the cells you will open, there are two enemies hidden in the dark. Kill them, get out of the cell, destroy the wooden objects to pick up the item and return to the corridor on the left.
At the end of the corridor, watch out for another octopus-like enemy. He'll be patrolling the area from left to right. If you see lights above it, run, because it will cause a powerful magical explosion. After killing him, go to the right side first, open the cell and pick up the crafting material. Then go left.
As you move on, you will see a cell with several prisoners to your left. Moreover, there's a hanging body in the middle of the cell, holding an object. To get it, you need to open the cell with the key from this floor, defeat the enemies inside, and then use the bow or crossbow and shoot at the chains to which the body is attached. Before you do that, though, keep going forward.
A little further you will encounter another octopus-mage. Don't let him hit you with the green lightning, because the paralysis is long enough to cause some heavy damage.
When you defeat him, take the keys and return to the cell to open it. If you don't know what level you are on, read the inscription, which always is on the given floor. When you get two keys, open all the cells, and then return to the starting point of the location, with the locked door on the right side.
Initially, you couldn't open them, but since now you got the key from floor 3F, you will be able to do so and go further. Go through the fog, then up the stairs, so you will find yourself on another floor of the Prison of Hope.
You will encounter one enemy on the upper floor. There's a cell on the left - open it and go inside.
In the middle of the cell there is an iron maiden, which you can open; aside from that, you will find several objects (you'll have to shoot down the hanging corpse to do so).
Going further, on the left side you will see another cell, which contains a very large number of enemies. You won't be able to open the cell now, however, it is worth killing the enemies by attacking them through the bars to get rid of the threat for later.
A few steps further, to the right side of the floor, there is another door that you will not be able to open. Behind them you will meet another octopus-mage. You can eliminate him easily without opening the door. The only attack that can hit you is a blast of magic. Turn right after you kill him.
On the other side of the floor you will see a locked cell, an enemy and an item. Watch out though, as there are many enemies in the darkness who will attack you as soon as you enter. They are located on the left and right side of the cell. The object that you can pick up is the Estoc.
Inside there are also three enemies who are hidden in large jugs. By destroying the jugs, you will free them - they won't be aggressive, but you also won't find any use in them. You can kill them for a few souls.
In the next cell you will find several hanging bodies, items and iron maidens. Inside, you'll find the hero's soul and the assassin armor set. After picking up the items, go to the room next door through a hole in the wall.
In the same room there is another iron maiden, but this time it is a trap - there's an enemy inside who will attack you when you release him. Keep walking through the hole in the wall, watching out for another octopus-mage.
After killing the mage, head to the right to collect the two keys to level 4F. Then turn around and go the other way.
Don't run too fast, because at some point the road collapses, so you can fall into a hole. In fact, nothing bad will happen if you fall, except that you will have to go back the same way from the beginning. Now your task will be to go to floor 3P - West. This is the door where you fought the octopus-mage. You can also go to the cells on this floor (for example, the cell with many enemies).
After opening the door, go right, collect the item located behind the coffins, then open the next door.
Going straight to the right, you will notice another cell, where a female figure can be seen. This is the Former Noble's Wife who can trade with you. Refill your supplies, then head to the other side of the floor. You will meet another octopus-mage there.
There is a lot of enemies in the first cell on the other side of the floor but only a few of them are aggressive towards you. Defeat them and collect the item from the hanging corpse inside the cell.
At the end of the corridor is a cell with several iron maidens inside. Open them to get a new ring and souls. Open only the ones that are close to each other. There's an enemy inside the one that's further apart from the other three. Then, exit the cell and open the door at the end of the corridoor. Go down the stairs.
As you descend, you will see an object and two paths. The narrow corridor leads to the lower floor. The second leads to more cells. Take the path to the right first instead of going down.
In some cells you will find some items, while others will be empty. There will also be ones where you will encounter more NPCs. One of them is the mage Freke. If you approach the door, you can talk to him. He will tell you that he has been imprisoned for centuries. Rescuing him from his cell will send the mage to the Nexus. Saving him is worth it, especially if you're playing as a mage yourself, because he will offer powerful spells from the bosses' souls. You'll find the key a little later, on the lower floors of the prison.
You can go down now. Then, open the door, then pick up the keys, which are located on the right side of the wall. For now, you won't be able to open the door to the right - you need to open the ones in front of you and go down, through the fog.
After passing through the fog, pick up the item along the way - it is a heavy crossbow with ammunition. The two cells on the left don't really matter, you don't have to open them. If you do, though, you'll encounter an enemy in the second cell.
Going further, you will encounter another NPC in one of the cells. If your tendency leans towards white, it will be a blue Phantom. Rydell will ask you to release him, but you won't find the key until you get to the new location. Don't worry about him just yet.
After talking to Rydell, go to the place where you went through the fog. Then, go even lower and open the door with the 1F key.
On the right, you will encounter a new, difficult to defeat type of enemy. This is a whole enemy horde, gathered up in a large ball. This is a very tough enemy, and they can cause a lot of damage. You can avoid fighting them, but of you kill them, you'll get a lot of souls.
During the fight, hide behind a pillar so that the enemy's attacks don't reach you. Attack only when the enemy shoots at you. Be careful at close range, though, because then the enemy will start using the blades to attack. It is best to defeat them with a bow/crossbow or magic, hiding behind a pillar. If you don't have magic or arrows, hide behind a pillar. When you see the blue lights, the enemy will launch a magic attack. Attack them then with one powerful blow and return to the pillar. Repeat this all the time until the enemy is dead.
At the junction on the floor there are two items to collect - a shield and an armor set.
Now go to the place where you defeated the horde. Collect the items in the cells. Go to the junction, too, as there you will find several wooden objects to destroy. Smash them to discover a new path, visible in the screenshot.
As you go through the hidden path, go down and pick up the object, and then go the other way.
On a collapsed road, pick up another object - it will be the next Estoc. Now go back to the hidden path and go left and ahead.
There will be another door to unlock. There's a path to the left of the door; if you go further, you will activate the cutscene, in which a large sculpture equipped with crossbows will start defending the bridge. Once you open the door, you can go upstairs, but you can't get to another floor without a key. Go left, then.
As you approach the bridge, the sculpture will begin to shoot arrows at you. Don't even think about stepping on the bridge. You have to turn off the machine - the switch is behind the sculpture.
However, next to the bridge there's an object that you can collect - it is the key that will open the passages between the second and third floors.
Therefore, instead of going further, it is worth to go back to the door from the previous floors to unlock it in case your character dies. This will save you time in case you fail.
Once you got the key, you should return to the place visible in the screenshot. This is the floor where your character took the keys and passed through the fog on the lower floor.
From now on, you should be able to open the door on the right with the key you got on the bridge.
Go through the door, then pick up the items. However, be careful, because there's an octopus-mage in the dark corridor.
Going further, you will encounter a larger door close to the lighted room. On the right side of the door there is a small passage, which hides another octopus-mage. You can pick up the items in this room and then open the door. You will then return to the room with the keys, but from the other side. At the very end, return to the door next to the lighted room.
Then go down the stairs. Head for the door at the end of the corridor. When you go inside, you will see fog to your left, while on the right you will see the entrance to the very top of the tower. Go right first.
When you reach the top, and are near the hearth, turn around and walk forward. The path is very narrow and long, but at the very end of it you will find the door to the next room.
At the end of the road you will get a silver catalyst, which is a good weapon for a mage, and a light armor set. When you pick up the items, return to the fog.
As you pass through the fog, you will be on the other side of the bridge, behind the sculpture that shot at the bridge. Approach it and pull the lever to turn it off. When you do this, you can safely collect all the items from the bridge, without fear that the sculpture will start shooting again.
On the right side, near the sculpture, there is another entrance that will lead to the top. If you want to make the boss fight easy for yourself, going there is your priority.
Once again, you will have to go through a long corridor. At the end of it you will encounter a "friendly" NPC. You can even talk to them, and they will tell you that they are only a servant and will not interfere. However, the truth is that this character holds the barrier that resurrects the boss. If you don't kill them, when the boss's health drops to zero during the boss fight, he will be reborn. Don't mind what this character says, just kill them. Two strikes will do. After killing the character, pick up the keys hanging on the wall. Use this key to open mage Freke's cell.
Now you should go back down and head towards the boss. Be careful though, as you may be attacked by the red phantom.
Don't be surprised if you take damage but don't know its source. The phantom uses a crossbow, and it has a ring that makes it difficult to detect. You have to get close to see him. The easiest tactic to kill a red phantom is to provoke him to use a crossbow. When he pulls it out, he always shoots one bolt, which is easy to avoid. Once he has fired, go sideways to avoid the shot, and then perform a strong attack with your weapon. Repeat this pattern over and over again.
When you defeat him, go to the very end of the location, to the building. The boss fight with Fool's Idol is now ahead of you. Description of the boss fight can be found on a separate page of the guide.
