Demon's Souls Remake: Penetrator - boss, how to defeat? Demons Souls PS5 guide, walkthrough
Last update: 02 August 2021
On this page of the guide to Demon's Souls Remake you will learn how to defeat the boss called Penetrator.
Penetrator attacks mainly with close range attacks, he does not use long-range attacks.
General advice
- Penetrator does not have any ranged attacks! All his attacks involve sword swings which, however, do have quite a far range.
- The pillars in the arena are useless. They don't give any real protection against damage, because the boss can destroy them very easily with one hit, so don't hide behind them, because you may be in for a big surprise.
- As the boss's name indicates, his attacks are penetrating, which means that you will take damage even if you block them. Therefore, it is worth to wear lighter armor for this fight, which will allow you to perform quick dodges. His attacks are clearly signaled and slow, so you should have no problem avoiding them.
- Fight the boss in the open space. The arena isn't too big, which makes it easy to get stuck in its corner - in that case, the fight with Penetrator won't be very pleasant.
- If you're in trouble, release Biorr. He's located in the room near the entrance to the arena of the Tower Knight boss. He is helpful enough that he can win the fight alone.
How to defeat the boss in close combat?
Penetrator's main attack are three strikes. Each one is dangerous, but if you understand them, they will not cause any danger. Try to stay a bit apart from the boss, not too close. The main reason is that you will have to avoid most of his attacks by rolling forward (behind the boss's back). If you are close to him and make a dodge when he attacks, the distance between you will be quite large, so the boss will have another chance to attack, while you won't.
If you're a little further away from Penetrator, he will attack you by lunging forward. Perform a dodge behind his back when he attacks, and then, if you use a fast weapon, take it in both hands and attack until the very end, until your stamina runs out, if your attacks make Penetrator stagger.
As the boss holds his sword a bit higher, can also turn around with the weapon and attack only afterwards. Even if that gets you and you dodge too early, you can save yourself by making a second dodge in a row. Remember to perform it behind the enemy's back.
The boss's most dangerous attack is his unique move. The boss stops in place to light his sword on fire. After a while, he will hurl his sword straight ahead to impale you on it. This attack can take all your health, but it is very well signaled (orange color on the sword instead of red). To avoid this attack, make a side dodge. If you sense the timing of the attack, you can even outrun it, but this is not recommended.
How to defeat the boss at a long range?
The long-distance boss fight is much less demanding than the close-quarters one. Magic can kill the boss pretty quickly. Since he does not have any ranged attacks, all you have to do is keep a proper distance between your character and Penetrator and shoot at him.
The most important advice is to not stand behind the pillars, because they won't protect you in any way. It's better to sprint and go to the other side of the arena, rather than shoot at the boss from behind the pillar. The boss will destroy the pillars very quickly, and his attacks go through them, so you will take damage anyway.
