On this page of the guide to Demon's Souls Remake you will learn how to complete chapter (1-3), Boletarian Palace in the Inner Ward.

You can enter the Inner Ward only if you get at least one archdemon soul.. Only then will the Inner Ward gate open. In addition, it is recommended to explore the farther area of the Boletarian Palace when your character is well equipped and is on a high level. The enemies here are much harder to defeat, so it's better to come here after completing other locations.

When you pass through the gate, you will find yourself in the inner part of the ward. On the right side behind the carriage there is a hidden path to an NPC called Yuria. She is a witch who will offer powerful spells in exchange for boss souls. However, you must first have a key, which you will find a little later.

For now, head towards the stairs to the left of the fountain. Watch out for the wolves behind the fountain, though. Kill them and go up the stairs.

There's a trap on the stairs. As you get closer, the flaming ball will start rolling down the stairs. There's a spot behind the wall to the left where you can hide.

When the ball drops, go upstairs. Unfortunately, the main gate will be closed, forcing you to find another way.

Said way is located on the right side of the stairs (near the gate). Go through the narrow passage, but watch out for the two enemies there. After defeating them, you can either jump down or go down the stairs.

If you go down the stairs, at the end of the corridor you will find an enemy and a few items to pick up. You can go there, collect everything, and then go back to the place visible in the photo and jump down to collect all the items.

Then head towards the crossbow enemy, kill him and go up. You will see another staircase that will lead to a higher level of the ward.

Just like before, there is a trap on the stairs. It is much more dangerous. On the sides, there are passages where you can hide from the rolling ball, but most of them will be blocked by enemies inside. Thus, climb a few steps up, and then quickly run down to avoid the balls.

Watch out for the mentioned enemies in the side alleys, too. Defeat them, collect the items, and then go up the stairs.

As you climb the stairs, a few crossbow enemies will appear in front of you. Every now and then, they'll fire at you. If you have magic or long-range weapons, you should try to kill these enemies from your current position.

To the right of the stairs is the entrance to the room. Watch out for the enemies that hide in there, though. There's a lot of them, so if your health is low, lure them out one by one.

After killing all the enemies, you can go inside. On the upper floor you will find an NPC who will offer some valuable items that you can buy.

Then, return to the place where you saw the crossbow enemies. There's fog on the left. Go towards it.

After passing through the fog, go ahead, but watch out for the knight. After defeating him, you will find yourself on a terrace.

Take down the next Official. He will have keys that will open the door located in front of the arena with the boss called the Tower Knight. It's worth going there before staring another boss fight (against Penetrator) because there is an NPC there, Biorr, and keys that will open the door to the hidden path behind the carriage on the right, at the beginning of location 1-3.

If you want to do it later, you should now go to the upper floor. Defeat all the enemies you encounter one by one. Watch out for another fireball, too, which is located at the very top of the stairs.

At the top, you will meet another knight. Take him out and then go down the narrow stairs to walk to the other side of the previously closed main gate.

Behind the gate will be another Official, who closed the gate before you earlier in the cutscene. Your job will be to kill him.

After defeating him, pick up the items located at the gate, and then open it with the nearby lever.

After opening the gate, you will also unlock the shortcut in case of dying. This is a good time to go back to the previous location (1-2) and release Biorr. If you don't care about it, though, you can take the wide stairs up. On the right side, behind the wooden barricades, you will see a few standard enemies. Eliminate them one by one.

The further you go, the more enemies you will encounter. Use the wooden barricades to your advantage, to stop the enemies at least for a while. Try to deal with them one by one to avoid fighting the whole group at once.

Additionally, on the stairs in the distance there are three knights, who are much more difficult to defeat. Once you're done with the lesser enemies, equip a bow and shoot at one of the knights; then, gain some distance from them and fight one at a time. Fighting three at once will most likely kill you.

After defeating the enemies, you have no choice but to go up the stairs to the very top. That's where you'll find the next boss, Penetrator. If you want to make the boss fight a bit easier, release Biorr. Description of the boss fight is on a separate page of the guide.
