Skills - powers, grenades and traps in Dead Cells Dead Cells Guide
Last update: 31 August 2018
In this chapter you will find a collection of useful information about Skills - the parts of the hero's equipment that occupy the two lower inventory slots. The hero doesn't have any skills at the beginning of the game. You need to find new traps, grenades and powers in the game world or buy them from traders.
Most skills have a few or several second cooldown time to be renewed after use. You may use them again only after they've fully regenerated. The good news is that by developing your character and unlocking certain mutations (e.g. Efficiency) the cooldown time of skills from selected groups can be shortened by several dozen percent.
Below you will find a list of available patterns in the game together with their location and drop chance in combat against a specific type of opponents. Remember that the blueprint will be placed on the collector list only after you have delivered it to the collector. If you die along the way, the previously collected blueprint will be lost and you have to get it again. What's more, even after the blueprint is provided, you need to sacrifice a certain number of cells so that the skill can permanently appear in shops and in the game world (as a random loot). After the blueprint is unlocked, the collector will immediately provide you with one copy of selected skill and you can take it with you to the next locations.
Powers
Below you will find a list of all available Powers. They have a variety of effects and can help you both weaken monsters and avoid enemy attacks.
Icon | Name | Properties | Where to get it |
Aura of Laceration | Generates a protective aura around the hero. It deals damage to monsters which get into contact with it. | You need to complete many Daily Challenges. The blueprint is a reward for one of the challenges.
Blueprint Extractor | You must have Hunter's Grenade. After the attacked monster has lost 60% of its health, it is possible to use this skill and "extract" a rare Blueprint. We have described this in more detail on a separate page. | The extractor does not have a separate blueprint to unlock. It appears every time you use Hunter's Grenade correctly on one of the monsters.
Corrupted Power | Your blows are stronger but monsters cause more damage while the skill is in effect. | The blueprint will be left by one of the puppets - Protector.
Death Orb | Generates a Death Orb that moves slowly and deals very large damage to enemies. | Blueprint can be obtained from a drop of the Cleaver monsters from the Forgotten Sepulcher location.
Grappling Hook | Uses a grappling hook. It pulls the attacked monster to the hero, and the monster takes extra damage from consecutive melee attacks. | Blueprint is dropped by an enemy called Catcher.
Knife Dance | Discard a group of knives. Hitting opponents has a negative bleeding status. | Blueprint is dropped by an enemy called Bat.
Phaser | Teleports you behind your opponent and increases the strength of your next attack. Skill does not have any damage itself, so make sure you have a good weapon. | Blueprint can be obtained from Runner in the Promenade of the Condemned location.
The Night Light | It is a unique skill for the Forgotten Sepulcher location. You can find the lighthouse behind the first golden door and it allows you to illuminate the dungeon (and thus avoid injuries caused by travelling in the dark). | You don't get a blueprint of this power. In the Forgotten Sepulcher dungeon you can pic kit as a fully operational skill.
Tonic | Renews a part of your health bar and provides temporary immortality for 4 seconds. It is a very useful skill for fighting bosses and playing at higher levels of difficulty. | Blueprint can be obtained from the loot after defeating Conjunctivius for the first time.
Tornado | Generate tornados. All enemies sucked in by a tornado take damage. | Blueprint can be obtained from Guardian Knight loot in the High Peak Castle.
Toxic Cloud | A toxic cloud appears that deals damage and infects enemies (with negative status). | Blueprint can be obtained from Purulent Zombie loot in the Graveyard.
Vampirism | The hero receives health points for every successful attack on the enemy. | Blueprint can be obtained from the Inquisitor monster.
Wave of Denial | Throw back all opponents. They take more damage if they collide with a wall after being blown away. | Blueprint can be obtained from a Bombardier loot in the Clock Tower.
Wings of the Crow | The hero can float in the air and deal more damage to monsters standing lower down. Use this skill in open spaces and in higher corridors. | Blueprint can be obtained from a Golem in Slumbering Sanctuary. |
Grenades
Below you will find a list of all available grenades in the game. They can weaken monsters in various ways. If you are going to rely heavily on grenades while playing, choose a Fireworks Technician mutation. It reduces the time of their regeneration.
Icon | Name | Properties | Where to get it |
Cluster Grenade | The grenade breaks down into a few smaller bombs. This is useful for attacking power groups. | Blueprint can be obtained from a Slasher.
Fire Grenade | Causes fire damage and sets enemies on fire. It is worth to weaken the monsters earlier with the Oiled Sword. | Blueprint can be obtained from a Grenadier.
Hunter's Grenade | This is a unique grenade, which serves only to "pull" the blueprints out of the monsters. The description of its mechanics can be found on a separate page of our guide. | Available from the beginning of the game, but you need to unlock it for the cells at the collector. Grenades always appear behind the golden door in Prisoners' Quarters and you have to pay 7,500 gold to open them.
Ice Grenade | Freezes enemies. Make sure you have good weapons so that the monsters are weakened as much as possible before the freezing effect stops. | Available from the beginning of the game.
Infantry Grenade | Standard frag grenade. Explodes a few seconds after a thrown. | Available from the beginning of the game.
Magnetic Grenade | Pulls enemies together and damages them. The grenade can hit monsters on other platforms and levels. | Blueprint can be found in a loot from Grenadier.
Oil Grenade | Imposes a status on an enemy that makes it very vulnerable to fire damage (set the monster on fire with any other weapon or skill). | Blueprint can be found in loot from Hammer in Prison Depths.
Powerful Grenade | A stronger variant of Infantry Grenade. The grenade explosion is greater and deals more damage to monsters. | Blueprint can be obtained from Bombardier in Clock Tower.
Root Grenade | Stuns enemies for 3 seconds and deals damage to them. The Wolf Trap has a similar effect. Use other strong attacks before the monster is released. | You have to open timed door in The Black Bridge, in other words get to them before 15 minutes of the game have expired.
Stun Grenade | Stuns all monsters that are within range of the grenade. Make sure you have good weapons and a second skill to immediately weaken defenseless enemies. | Secret area in one of the towers located in Ramparts.
Swarm Grenade | Summons an insect swarm that attacks all surrounding enemies. | Blueprint can be obtained from Disgusting Worm. |
Traps
Below you will find a list of all available traps in the game. This category includes both classic traps and different types of turrets, which can shoot or attack enemies in other ways. If you are going to rely heavily on traps, remember to choose the Efficiency mutation. It reduces the time of their cooldowns.
Icon | Name | Properties | Where to get it |
Barnacle | A flying cannon that shoots at the monsters located underneath. The force of destruction is not great, but monsters have some problems in destroying it. | Blueprint can be obtained from Thorny's drop.
Cleaver | A trap that deals damage and has a bleeding effect. An attack occurs when a monster tries to go through a trap, for example on his way to the hero. | Blueprint can be obtained from the Runner in Promenade of the Condemned.
Crusher | A trap that crushes enemies. An attack occurs when enemies are within range of the trap. | Blueprint can be found in the loot from Lacerator.
Double Crossb-o-matic | A stationary cannon that attacks the two closest enemies. This is one of the most useful traps in the game and you can get its blueprint in initial parts of the game. | Blueprint can be obtained from Zombie.
Explosive Decoy | A trap that makes the hero invisible for almost 3 seconds. In addition, in the place where he stayed, the lure appears, which explodes after a while. This is a good ability to attack groups of monsters and to run away from stronger monsters when your hero is heavily injured. | Blueprint can be obtained from one of the Protector puppets.
Flamethrower Turret | A stationary turret with a flamethrower that deals damage from fire and sets monsters on fire. | Blueprint can be obtained from a Shocker.
Heavy Turret | Stationary heavy cannon, which has a much stronger fire mode. The hero can get a bonus for his own attacks if he stands near it. | Blueprint can be obtained from a Slasher.
Sinew Slicer | A trap that ejects blades. In addition to taking damage, enemies that got hit start bleeding. This is one of the most useful traps in the game and you can use it from the very beginning. | Available from the beginning of the game.
Wolf Trap | A trap in the form of cleavers that immobilizes enemies and increases their damage vulnerability from other attacks. Use strong weapons before the monster is released. | Available from the beginning of the game. |
