Conjunctivius Boss in Dead Cells Dead Cells Guide

Last update: 21 August 2018

In this chapter you will find a range of information and tips to help you deal with the first alternative boss in Dead Cells - Conjunctivius. Particular sections describe your opponent's location, his set of attacks, and how you can defeat him.

Where to find Conjunctivius in Dead Cells?

Conjunctivius is the first alternative boss in Dead Cells - Conjunctivius Boss in Dead Cells - Bosses - Dead Cells Game Guide

Conjunctivius is the first "alternative" boss in Dead Cells. You will not find him when you go through the game for the first time. He is located an initially inaccessible area, which you can reach only after equipping the hero with appropriate runes and using them to visit new locations.

You will find him in the Insufferable Crypt and he's the only opponent in the area. You can reach the crypt only if you have the Ram Rune - if necessary, consult the How to reach inaccessible locations? - skill runes page of our guide. As a reminder, after starting a new game you must enter the Toxic Sewers, then find the entrance to the Ancient Sewers and go through the second location to reach the elevator that will take you to the entrance to the crypt.

Note - Battling Conjunctivius eliminates the need to fight The Concierge, the boss described on the previous page. In a single playthrough you only fight one of those bosses.

How to defeat Conjunctivius in Dead Cells?

Conjunctivius is the second most challenging boss in Dead Cells - Conjunctivius Boss in Dead Cells - Bosses - Dead Cells Game Guide

Conjunctivius is the second most challenging boss in Dead Cells. Only the battle with the final boss is more demanding. You should not try to confront him early in the game, i.e. if you are just getting to know the game mechanics and still gathering the most important upgrades. You will encounter a lot of trouble just by traversing the sewers, which are populated by much more difficult monsters than those you need to defeat before facing The Concierge.

Try to purchase as many weapons plans and skills as possible and unlock at least the Health Flask III upgrade. The battle with the boss is long and quite tiring, and you can run through your entire supply of health potions just memorizing his attack pattern. To take on this battle you should prepare some good ranged weapons and skills. The ideal weapons of choice would be grenades, because setting traps won't be very helpful in this particular case. You can make an exception for the Wolf Traps, but you can manage without them as well.

If you have already unlocked better shields, you can bring one of them to this battle - it is best to equip it in the slot for melee weapon, which would not be very effective in this fight anyway. Try to select a shield that absorbs as much damage as possible and/or one imposes negative status effects on your opponent when his attack is parried. Additionally, before reaching the boss' lair, try to get an amulet that reduces damage from ranged attacks - an example of such an artifact is shown in the picture. You can find amulets on defeated elite enemies. Having an amulet with this specific trait will significantly help you to survive the confrontation with Conjunctivius.

The fight against Conjunctivius is divided into two phases, which switch on alternately (each time the boss loses about a quarter of his health bar) - Conjunctivius Boss in Dead Cells - Bosses - Dead Cells Game Guide

The fight against Conjunctivius is divided into two phases, which switch on alternately (each time the boss loses about a quarter of his health bar). In the first phase, the boss moves around the entire arena and you can jump on the extended shelves to get closer. As the boss stays in the air all the time, ranged weapons are the best choice. With a melee weapon you would have to look for an opportunity when the boss stops close to one of the shelves. To increase your damage, try to use ranged weapons that can set on fire, poison, or cause bleeding.

From time to time, the boss launches a unique attacks. The most dangerous is the attack signaled by a red chain mark (example shown on the attached picture). This means that Conjunctivius plans to unleash a charge, and if you don't avoid it, you could be heavily injured. You can jump aside or, if you are using a shield, try to pair the attack.

Conjunctivius also fires green projectiles from time to time. The mechanism is very similar here - use your shield or jump quickly to a place where you won't be hit.

In the second phase of the duel the upper shelves retract and the hero falls to the bottom of the arena - Conjunctivius Boss in Dead Cells - Bosses - Dead Cells Game Guide

In the second phase of the duel the upper shelves retract and the hero falls to the bottom of the arena. Conjunctivius does not attack the hero but instead tentacles appear on the lowest level. In this phase of the fight, you may find either grenades or the aforementioned wolf traps to be very useful.

The fact that the coming out of the tentacles is clearly signaled is a big advantage and if you don't doze off, you should always have enough time to dodge. More troublesome are the tentacles that move from one end of the arena to the other. You can avoid them by jumping or look for opportunities to stop them with a shield (parrying). However, you need to use the shield at the right moment to pull it off. Only after you get rid of all the tentacles will you be able to resume attacking Conjunctivius.

Later in the battle Conjunctivius will get a completely new attack - he will bombard the arena with green projectiles - Conjunctivius Boss in Dead Cells - Bosses - Dead Cells Game Guide

Later in the battle Conjunctivius will get a completely new attack - he will bombard the arena with green projectiles. This is a very dangerous attack, which can deprive the hero of a large number of health points. If you have an amulet that reduces damage dealt by enemy projectiles, it will be much easier for you to survive this rain of fire. Otherwise, hide behind the shield or try to position yourself e.g. in the lower left corner of the arena and jump at the right moments to avoid individual projectiles. Be prepared to survive at least two such attacks during the boss fight.

When battling Conjunctivius, healing the character becomes a much bigger problem than in the case of The Concierge. Try to do this away from the monster, preferably in one of the corners or top shelves. Do not try to heal yourself during the tentacle phase, as you will be easily interrupted.

Rewards for defeating Conjunctivius in Dead Cells

Here are the most important rewards given for defeating Conjunctivius:

  1. Is There Something in Your Eye? achievement
  2. Passage to other locations in the game. There are two passages in the Insufferable Crypt - to the Slumbering Sanctuary and to the Graveyard (this option becomes accessible only after you have acquired the Spider Rune).
  3. Plans for the following: Tonic (first victory against the boss), Cursed Sword (second victory), Counter Attack (third victory), Gastronomy (fourth victory), Recovery (fifth victory).
