Legendary Forge in Dead Cells Dead Cells Guide

Last update: 28 August 2018

Legendary Forges are unique locations, which can be visited while playing Dead Cells. In every Legendary Forge, you can increase your chances of finding higher quality items (the so-called drop rate). More information concerning this mechanic is given further on in the guide.

Where can I find a Legendary Forge?

Legendary Forges are found in safe zones, but keep in mind you dont see them every time you visit a safe zone - Legendary Forge in Dead Cells - How to start? - Dead Cells Game Guide

Legendary Forges are found in safe zones, but keep in mind you don't see them every time you visit a safe zone. Access to Legendary forges is granted only after defeating one of the main bosses of the game, and more specifically, after defeating the first main boss (either The Concierge or Conjunctivius), and right after defeating the second main boss (The Time Keeper). This means that you can access the Legendary Forge only twice during one playthrough. You cannot access the forge after the final boss battle, as soon after the encounter ends, you have to start the game anew (just like in the case of your characters premature death).

If you meet the requirements mentioned above the Legendary Forge will be in the first room of the safe zone, which you visit after defeating one of the main bosses - the example is shown in the picture above.

How does the Legendary Forge fork?

You neither buy nor upgrade your equipment in the Legendary Forges - Legendary Forge in Dead Cells - How to start? - Dead Cells Game Guide

You neither buy nor upgrade your equipment in the Legendary Forges. Instead, the forges are used to unlock permanent upgrades, which increase your chances of finding better items in the game world. Once you buy an upgrade, it remains active all the time, also during new playthroughs after your characters death. It's important to note that the chance of finding better items refers to the items found in the form of loot and those sold by the merchants.

The way the Legendary Forges work is plain and simple, however, buying all the upgrades takes a lot of time. To fill up the bar of permanent upgrades, you have to spend the cells you acquired. Along with spending cells, you increase your chances for better loot. For example, every 50 cells spent on upgrading the Legendary Forge increases the Chance of finding better items by 5%.

The Legendary Forge offers three types of upgrades:

  1. Increasing the Chance of finding + grade items: These items are 2 levels above the standard ones that you can find in a particular location. You can invest in this upgrade from the beginning of the game. You can spend a maximum of 1000 cells, thanks to this your chances of finding better items increase by 100%, this means every item in the game becomes by default a + grade item.
  2. Increasing the Chance of finding ++ grade items: These items are 4 levels above the standard ones that you can find in a particular location. You can invest in this upgrade when you start playing on Hard difficulty, which means that you are playing with one stem cell active. You can spend a maximum of 3500 cells, and in this way, your chances can increase by 60%.
  3. Increasing the Chance of finding S grade items: These items are 6 levels above the standard ones that you can find in a particular location. You can invest in this upgrade from the moment you start playing on Expert difficulty, which means that now you are playing with two stem cell active. You can spend a maximum of 8000 cell, and in this way, your chances of finding better items increase by 30%.

Some additional hints

1 - Legendary Forge in Dead Cells - How to start? - Dead Cells Game Guide
  1. Do not worry about the Legendary Forges in the early stages of the game, which is when you should be busy unlocking other important upgrades, new equipment (from acquired blueprints). Those a far more important things to do first. Leave the "investing" your cells part for later.
  2. As a default after reaching the Legendary Forge, you can only spend the cells you acquired from the last boss. This is a serious problem, as the boss usually drops only a few cells. You can solve this problem by moving the cells from previous locations (those you visit before fighting the boss). The game always blocks your exit from a normal forge in the safe zone (as shown in the picture above), however, the blue door can be destroyed with any type of melee weapon. This allows you to supply far more cells to the Legendary Forge at once. However, keep in mind that if you die, you will lose all the cells you were carrying. This method is useful on normal difficulty and on the condition that your current equipment is enough to defeat the next main boss.
