Nation description - Japan

Name - Civilization 6: Japan - Tokimune Hojo, nation overview, tips - Nations - Sid Meiers Civilization VI Game Guide

Name

Effect

Meiji Restoration

All districts receive an additional standard adjacency bonus for being adjacent to another district.

An important ability, useful for beginners and veterans of the series will get even more from it. Thanks to it you don't have to plan a placement of your districts in order to get the best profits because you get it anyway. Veterans can use this ability to get a really good bonuses if they decide to place their districts so that they will generate general bonuses for adjacency. Meiji Restoration makes Japan a very player friendly nation for those that aren't yet familiar with game mechanics.

Name

Effect

Divine Wind

Land units receive +5 to combat strength in land tiles adjacent to coast. Naval units receive +5 to combat strength in shallow water tiles. The build time for encampment, holy site and theatre square is halved.

This ability, at least its first half, has a very strategic and situational nature. You can use its full potential when you build your cities on a coast. This is another nation that is better at controlling bigger water bodies but notice that those bonuses are related to coast terrains. This means that for Japan this ability is the most profitable during the beginning of the game when crossing oceans impossible. Another thing that shows that Japan is good for beginners is the fact that you can build some districts in shorter time.

Summary

In Japan's case it is hard to point the ways of achieving victory that are the easiest. It must be said that the combination of said abilities makes Japan the easiest nation in the game. Regardless of your decision on which victory you want to achieve, whether it be religion, domination or tourism, you can generate profits faster in those disciplines. Creating cities on coast is helpful when it comes to defending them, if you decided to dominate other players but it also gives the access to seaside resorts that will get you closer to culture victory. When it comes to religion, Japan doesn't have any real predispositions but the combination of reduced costs for making holy sites and a free adjacency bonus means that it can't get easier than that.
