Nation description - Incan Empire
Inca is an economic power even early in the game. It is the first civilization in the game that is very effective in mountains. Fast development of this civilization depends on the number of mountains located near Inca cities. Almost all bonuses of this nation are based on mountain fields. Luckily, this nation usually starts in a biome filled with such fields.
The more mountains are within the borders of a city, the greater the bonus to food from trade roads of that city. Thanks to that, you can quickly increase the population of your cities. Additionally, terrace farms can be built on hills and they gain additional food income for each mountain field and nearby farms. They also feature a production bonus for each neighboring aqueduct or fresh water source. Terrace farms, if well placed, can become very profitable upgrades during the majority of the match. Even during the late phase of the game, a well-placed terrace farms will remain useful fields.
Inca is the only nation that can assign the population of its cities to work in mountains. Each such fields provide +2 to production and +1 to food per each terrace farm. Thanks to that, you don't need to avoid mountains while these fields are worthless for all other nations. Some districts receive a nice bonus for neighboring with a mountain field. You can take advantage of that and create them among mountains. The map generation algorithm was upgraded in the expansion pack and now it frequently creates mountain ranges or single fields with mountains. You should build a new wonder of the world - Machu Picchu. It increases the number of districts that receive +1 bonus for neighboring with mountains. Thanks to that, all districts that provide profits can be built near mountains.
Another special upgrade is QhapaQ Nan that might be called an antic "tunnel". Builders can place this upgrade on mountain fields - it enables traveling through these fields. This can greatly reduce traveling time for your units or it can enable them to reach inaccessible places. It is an important upgrade because tunnels are available late in the game. Each tunnel provides a bonus to gold profits from trade routes - this also encourages using this upgrade.
Warak'aq is an improved version of skirmisher that can attack twice in a single turn! The attack range of this unit is a single field, but two such squads can defeat most enemies from the same technological level in the same turn.
Summary
Incan Empire is a powerful economic nation as long as it can be settled in an area filled with plenty of mountains. The possibility to build "ancient tunnels" provides new options. It can be used to explore new parts of the map or to attack an enemy from a different side. Remember to take advantage of all your hill fields and to build terrace farms there. Strong and large cities will become the base for other types of victories like science or military victory.
