Nectar is a unique substance in Seven: The Days Long Gone, which allows you to use abilities and also upgrade them. You encounter this resource while playing through the game. It comes in the form of small vials (as shown in the picture), which the game treats as quest items after you find them. You do not have to use them, but you cannot accidentally get rid of them by throwing them out of your inventory. You can, of course, check the number of vials you currently possess in your inventory at any point of the game.

Collecting Nectar vials allows you to fill Skill Chip slots - Where to find Nectar and what are its uses? - FAQ - Seven The Days Long Gone Game Guide

Collecting Nectar vials allows you to fill Skill Chip slots. New passive/active abilities can be put into the slots, as well as upgrades for previously chosen abilities. You can find Nectar vials while progressing through the game or on your own while exploring or doing side missions. In the second case, take note of the side mission named "Gold Rush", which is added to your Journal after you find one of the vials. In the example shown in the picture above, it is the vial that can be found in the safe at the Mortbane shrine (during the main quest "Lost Contact").

In total you can acquire 32 Nectar vials throughout the game, including 11 that can be obtained as a part of the previously mentioned "Gold Rush" side mission.
