Character progression in Seven: The Days Long Gone is handled differently than in other RPGs. Below, you can find the most important information regarding this topic.

  1. You don't get any experience points in Seven which means that you can't level up. This is especially important when it comes to fights because defeating enemies won't help you in leveling up your character. This means that killing NPCs is only for making quests easier to complete or to get items that they carry.
  2. There are two main ways of making your character stronger. The first one is to get better weapons and pieces of armor. These items can be found in the game's world (look for stashes, closed crates and safes), looted from defeated enemies and bought from merchants. The last option should be ignored, at least at the beginning of the game, because good "regular" weapons are easily obtainable by using the other two methods. You can think about buying weapons in the later parts of the game, that is after buying most of the visas (or all of them) and when you still have a lot of auryte left. Pay attention to stats and choose gear accordingly to your playstyle (e.g. blades with critical bonus are good when you like to backstab enemies) and needs (e.g. armor with better poison resistance is a good choice when you want to attack a group of spiders).
  3. All weapons and pieces of armor can be upgraded in crafting stations. Don't worry too much about this function in the beginning of the game. Go back to it after you get much better items. The first thing that you must do is to find a schematic, be sure that a crafting station meets upgrade's requirements and then use crafting materials to create it. Your new upgrade is ready to be combined with carried gear.

 

 

  1. The second method to upgrade Teriel is to unlock new abilities. You need to have at least one ability chip (an example is presented in the picture 1) and set it as active. You get new chips by making progress.
  2. Each chip has a certain number of ability and upgrade slots. Choose a chip that suits you best. Abilities are divided into active (the picture 2) and passive. Try to have at least two active abilities and switch between them freely. Each ability can strengthen you or give new effects thanks to upgrades that you can find in the world - try to examine areas carefully and search for new upgrades (they appear on the map when you get closer to them).

 

  1. It is important to know that you have a limited number of ability slots. What hinders the hero here is your amount of Nectar vials (an example of a vial is presented in the screen). Each vial is treated as one slot that can be filled - for example, 6 vials can be filled with 6 slots ("main" abilities and/or their upgrades).
  2. Nectar vessels are items that you must search on your own (Gold Rush side quest) and get them by completing certain quests. The game has more than 30 Nectar vials but 10-15 of them is "enough" to have a good variety of active and passive abilities.
  3. Nectar vials are treated as quest items. This means that you can't remove them from inventory (they weight nothing) or sell them. This is a good information because there is no risk that you can lose one of them by accident and make Teriel suddenly weaker.
