Starting tips for Seven Seven Game Guide

Last update: 06 December 2017

Below, you will find a selection of the most basic tips for playing Seven: The Days Long Gone. Go through them and you will certainly find the first moments with the game more approachable and less frustrating. The number of your deaths should be reduced - and there's a lot of dying in Seven. Note - many of the following issues are discussed in more detail later on in this guide.

Save game often!

In Seven the protagonist, Teriel, can die very easily - Starting tips for Seven - Game Guide - Seven The Days Long Gone Game Guide

In Seven the protagonist, Teriel, can die very easily. Here are some of the most probable reasons for dying in the game:

  1. Being attacked by an enemy or monster - stronger enemies can kill you with 2-3 blows, not leaving any time for escape (they can chase you down, they can finish you off from afar).
  2. Falling from too great height - there are no invisible walls in Seven that could save you from dying after making a careless move. You have to stay on your toes at all times and manipulate the camera to always be sure you know where to move next.
  3. Activating a trap or succumbing to a defense mechanism (such as a laser barrier).

Considering the above, you should remember to save the game often. The autosaves are pretty rare as they are and most of the times they happen when something important goes down - hence, if you're traveling a lot without finishing any quests, much of your progress could be lost. Really, we cannot stress how important it is. We will, nonetheless, try: save your game often (use quick saves, F6).

The first quest of the game is just a fancy tutorial

During the prologue, Teriel is already in possession of advanced weapons, skills and gadgets - Starting tips for Seven - Game Guide - Seven The Days Long Gone Game Guide

During the prologue, Teriel is already in possession of advanced weapons, skills and gadgets. That's the perfect occasion to give a try to all these things and start learning the ropes - see which elements of the equipment you will like the most and remember them. As you might expect, the protagonist will soon lose all of his fancy guns - right after finishing the first big quest, to be exact. Fortunately, you will be able to reclaim your toys as the game progresses (after you get to the isle of Peh).

Note - you don't have to sneak and keep quiet at all cost during the prologue, because even if you raise an alarm and have to fight the guards, you will not face any repercussions of that later in the game. Don't waste time on finding valuable items and searching through the bodies of enemies, because you will lose most of your stuff anyway soon.

Don't attack everyone

As we have already mentioned, the protagonist will be sent to the island of Peh, at the same time losing all his abilities and items - Starting tips for Seven - Game Guide - Seven The Days Long Gone Game Guide

As we have already mentioned, the protagonist will be sent to the island of Peh, at the same time losing all his abilities and items. He will have to start everything from scratch. It's a long and laborious process. The protagonist will be weakened during the initial stages of the game, which means that most encounters will probably end in his demise - we mostly mean the city guard (even if you kill one, more are bound to come), and stronger monsters.

The fact that you can use the Sense Mode to evaluate the threat posed by enemies makes things a whole lot easier. Hover the cursor over it and you will see the basic info about the character (as above). You should generally be able to kill lower-level characters regardless of circumstances. The mid-range enemies can be dealt with easily if you only manage to perform a stealth kill on them. The higher-end enemies should just be avoided. Seriously - don't provoke them.

If you get dragged into a fight with someone you feel you will never defeat, then look for an opportunity to retreat hastily. If you manage to break free, make sure to dodge while running, and you might just avoid the projectiles. You're safe once you get far enough from the pursuit and they give it up, or if you manage to hide, for example in bushes (you have to be out of your enemies' sight to be able to do that).

Sneak as often as you can

Teriel is a thief and that fact determines the gameplay of Seven - Starting tips for Seven - Game Guide - Seven The Days Long Gone Game Guide

Teriel is a thief and that fact determines the gameplay of Seven. Sneaking should be your default method of traveling. Use it whenever you have to get around a number of enemies. It's a good idea to start by learning your environment and planning your route. Use the fact that most of the locations are multi-leveled. This will allow you to bypass the enemies in different ways.

Sneaking can also be used to perform stealth kills on individual enemies. Remember that stronger enemies can survive such strikes, though. Once again, remember - save your game often.

Survey your whereabouts regularly

The Sense Mode is an extremely useful thing, which you can use from the very beginning of Seven - Starting tips for Seven - Game Guide - Seven The Days Long Gone Game Guide

The Sense Mode is an extremely useful thing, which you can use from the very beginning of Seven. That's one of the few possessions retained after being transported to Peh. The gadget has numerous uses, such as:

  1. Surveying the area - it allows you to see further ahead. Great for recon.
  2. Revealing enemies and security systems - the enemies can also be scanned to reveal additional information about their level and range of sight.
  3. Revealing secret objects - this allows you to find hidden collectibles, gold or auryte. Apart from that, the scanner is also useful when you have to scrutinize a crime scene.

An additional, and less obvious, application of the Sense Mode is the ability to fast forward game time (press 'E' when the mode's active). This allows you to promptly change the time of the day, which is very useful if you want to sneak into enemy base at night.

Rolling makes you move faster

Teriel doesnt move fast even when you hold sprint button - Starting tips for Seven - Game Guide - Seven The Days Long Gone Game Guide

Teriel doesn't move fast even when you hold sprint button. However, you can change that by pressing ALT at regular intervals - thanks to that you can roll but it can be used only outside of fights (example in the picture). Additional plus is that rolls don't deplete your energy (stamina) bar.

Note - Don't combine rolls with sprint (SHIFT key) because Teriel will start performing slides. They are treated as an attack which means that hitting someone can cause an unwanted fight.

The game world is not flat

One of the features distinguishing Seven from other RPGs is the considerable verticality of the game - Starting tips for Seven - Game Guide - Seven The Days Long Gone Game Guide

One of the features distinguishing Seven from other RPGs is the considerable verticality of the game. Many areas in the game have several levels and you will have to use all of them in order to navigate the game efficiently. This has advantages and disadvantages, the latter being mostly the risk of making a mistake and dying after a long fall. Don't risk jumping down from bigger heights - even if Teriel doesn't die right away, you will have to dedicate some resources to healing him, which you could otherwise use in combat. Also, be extra careful when crossing great heights by walking along a pipeline. Don't haste and make sure not to take a wrong step.

Let's not forget, though, that we can also use that fact to our own advantage. Climb to avoid patrols and infiltrate tight-security locations. Careful exploration will sure help you reach an alternative path leading to a valuable collectable. Use the Sense Mode to locate the treasures more easily. Once you know where they are, you "only" have to reach them.

The quests in Seven often include choices and consequences

The side-quests offer the bulk of decision-making in this game - Starting tips for Seven - Game Guide - Seven The Days Long Gone Game Guide

The side-quests offer the bulk of decision-making in this game. As concerns the main quests, you mostly just choose the way in which you want to fulfill the objectives. You should consider saving your game before beginning each mission in case you make a decision that produces disagreeable effects, but practice such as this is often perceived as a form of cheating in gaming. It's entirely up to you, though.

Most choices are made during conversations, but they can sometimes be made by meeting one of two people who serve different powers. Not all choices are clear-cut. Sometimes it's more profitable to betray your friends and obtain a powerful artifact. Take a look at a chapter in this guide that is devoted to choices and consequences (also those long-term ones).

Look for items, but bear in mind the weight limit

Theres a whole lot of interactive containers in the game, where valuables can be found - Starting tips for Seven - Game Guide - Seven The Days Long Gone Game Guide

There's a whole lot of interactive containers in the game, where valuables can be found. Don't try to collect them all; there are a few important limitations when it comes down to the inventory:

  1. There's a weight limit in the game, which is visible in the top-right corner of the inventory window. It's very easy to excess this limit (as seen above), especially if you're the type of player who collects everything they see. A slightly overburdened character can still move but your agility will get decreased drastically. When you go beyond the limit (about 112 units) Teriel won't be able to move until you discard or destroy some of the items from your inventory. Put the heaviest objects on the ground, visit a nearby merchant or a crafting station and go back to those items after you reduce your burden.
  2. You cannot sell everything to the same vendor. All of them have a limited amount of money to spend. If you move too many items in the trade window, you will give some of them away for free.
  3. Selling junk doesn't yield too much auryte. At the same time, you could risk accidentally selling items that would be useful for crafting.

You can look for advice on collecting items in the chapter called What loot is most valuable?, which you may find later on in this guide.

There is no total freedom of exploration in Peh

After reaching Peh, you cannot actually explore the island without any constraints - Starting tips for Seven - Game Guide - Seven The Days Long Gone Game Guide

After reaching Peh, you cannot actually explore the island without any constraints. There are a few factors that make exploration more difficult. Here's a list:

  1. Checkpoints - there are a few checkpoints in the game which require that you own a visa of a certain level. You get a level one visa automatically at the beginning of the game, but obtaining the rest is your problem. Check out the How to obtain visas? chapter for more info about that. While you could try to bypass the checkpoints, it would make the game considerably more difficult. You will sometimes encounter patrols that will require that you produce a visa - if you don't have it, you'll be attacked.
  2. The areas around towns and villages are oftentimes inhabited by bandits and monsters. More importantly, both monsters and bandits are mostly much more powerful than the protagonist. Proceed with caution.
  3. The game features a fast-travel system that allows you to use a system of aerial trams to get around faster. This may force you to undertake lengthy travels. The information on accessing the aerial tramway can be found in the chapter called How to use the fast-travel system?

Ranged weapons don't use conventional ammo

One of the more unusual features of Seven is the fact that ranged weapons dont use standard ammunition - Starting tips for Seven - Game Guide - Seven The Days Long Gone Game Guide

One of the more unusual features of Seven is the fact that ranged weapons don't use standard ammunition. On one hand that's good, because you don't have to worry about running out of clips and choose between more ammo and more items. On the other hand, these weapons had to be nerfed somehow, and so the crossbow has to be reloaded after each shot, which takes time, and energy weapons deplete your stamina. The energy bar replenishes itself over time, but you can also use different consumables to make it quicker. If you're not careful, however, you may leave the protagonist weakened and more susceptible to damage.

You don't have to buy new armors and guns

Actually, its indeed inadvisable to spend money on these - Starting tips for Seven - Game Guide - Seven The Days Long Gone Game Guide

Actually, it's indeed inadvisable to spend money on these. The protagonist is rather poor at the beginning of the game, so it's a much better idea to use the auryte for buying a new visa that grants you access to a new area of the island. Better armors, guns and other items can be obtained in a few different ways:

  • Exploration;
  • Opening containers - have some lock picks on you at all times. You will sometimes have to sneak around to reach some containers, if they're in restricted areas;
  • Loot bodies - in most cases, you'll be able to obtain a whole set of items from a deceased enemy: all of their weapons, armors, etc. (see above). This may also allow you to get a good disguise (if it was a guard with access to restricted areas, for example). More about that in the chapter Where and how to get a good disguise?.
