Combat in Seven The Days Long Gone Seven Game Guide
Last update: 05 December 2017
Direct confrontation isn't a recommended way to play Seven: The Days Long Gone. It should be treated as a last resort in a situation when stealth is impossible or you failed to stay undetected. Below, you can find the most important information regarding combat. You can also read our tips that will allow you to be victorious.
- Fights in Seven should be divided into those that you want start by yourself and those that broke out as a result of a mistake, e.g. during stealth. If you have the second scenario then try to quickly estimate whether you are able to win or not. In many cases, the only solution is to escape, especially when your opponent has better gear and is more powerful than Teriel.
- You should do the same as when you are sneaking - activate Sense Mode and scan the enemies you want to attack. This allows you to determine an approximate level of an upcoming challenge but you can also see how many enemies are in a given area. A scenario in which an enemy is joined by others is highly probable - this means that winning will be much more difficult.
- It is important to choose your gear accordingly to a fight. Teriel can find and buy a lot of various weapons. Use the fact that your character has two weapon slots - equip different types of weapons and switch between them. You should equip one fast weapon (daggers, swords etc.) and one for slow and powerful strikes (e.g. a giant axe or a spear).
- Don't focus only on regular attacks. Try to use combos - they deal more damage and unable an attacked enemy to fight back. Besides that, you should also get accustomed to heavy attacks when you are still in the prologue. Try to knock enemies down and deal additional damage before they get up. Parries and ripostes, which are more advanced techniques, are also useful but remember that heavy and/or unique enemy attacks can be impossible to parry/counter.
- The way you move on a battlefield is important, especially when you have to defeat a very powerful enemy or when you fight with a group of enemies and you have to expect attacks from different directions. Dodges are extremally useful here. You can use them to dodge heavy attacks or to quickly reach places where Teriel's attacks would be more effective. Note - If you need, you can also combine running with attacks because Teriel can strike while sliding or sprinting.
- Taking care of the hero's health is important, regardless of your current situation. Check which medicaments you have before you start a fight and try to get more if you need (explore the world, visit merchants, craft syringes). Syringes are the most effective because they can regenerate Teriel's health fast. Food should be used between fights because they are slower at regenerating health. Also, don't waste your best medicaments on fights with weaker enemies.
- Besides the health bar, you should also keep an eye on energy (stamina) bar. Each action, e.g. swinging a weapon, sprinting or dodging depletes it a little bit. Stamina bar can be quickly regenerated by using medicaments or you can wait until it slowly goes back by itself. The second method is only good when you still have a little bit of stamina left.
- In Seven, ranged weapons aren't that important but still, using them is a good idea. They are useful mainly in situations when you attack enemies who can't hurt you from a distance. You can, e.g. stand on a rooftop or rocks and attack them without a fear of losing health. Sadly, most of the enemies (both humans and monsters) have ranged attacks which means that you have to move to sides and attack to avoid enemy projectiles. Ranged weapons don't require any ammo but they may take some time to reload or they may require stamina. Remember to avoid situations where Teriel is unable to use weapons.
- Some enemies have unique attacks that can, e.g. poison you or slow your moves down. Be prepared for these "surprises". Equip an armor that increases your resistance to a given type of attack (e.g. greater resistance to fire or poison). Also, adjust your tactic to enemies, e.g. get closer to a monster that spits acid so it won't be able to do that.
- Certain abilities and gadgets can help you in eliminating enemies. Abilities useful in combat include, e.g. Boomerang for ranged combat or Black Hole that can weaken enemies in a given area. As for gadgets, you can use, e.g. traps - place them before a fight takes place and then "lead" your enemies to them.
