The sheer amount of content available in New World can be overwhelming. For this reason, we made a list of beginner's tips to ease new players into the game. We have included standalone tips on armor weight, repairing items, first house discount or tax evasion, but also explained the basics of the most important elements of the game. We have described crafting, camp construction and missions in settlements. We also haven't forgotten about fast travel, healing and gaining experience.

Armor weight affects the character

Armor pieces in New World are divided into three types: light, medium and heavy. The type of armor you choose affects not only the statistics, but also the character's movement. A character in light armor can make a long-range dodge roll, a character in medium armor - a quick dodge, and a heavy-armored character can only slowly roll away. Because of this, you should choose the armor type that fits your playstyle. In addition to evasion, armor weight also affects the following statistics:

1. Light armor increases the damage dealt by your character by 20%.
2. Medium armor provides a 10% damage bonus and increases the duration of status effects inflicted upon enemies by 10% (e.g. stun).
3. Heavy armor increases blocking stability by 15% and increases the duration of status effects inflicted upon enemies by 20%.

You can check the weight of your current armor in the equipment screen, next to the character's headgear slot.

Healing in the early game

The beginner's guide has to contain tips on how to heal your character. For novice players, the best method of healing is by eating food. All you have to do is prepare food by the campfire, in your own camp or in the settlement. This will require meat from animals. Food can also be found in the game world. The same goes for healing potions. It's worth noting that food heals you over time, while potions instantly recover a large portion of your health.

You should craft and gather from the start of the game

Crafting and gathering resources are basic gameplay elements in New World. Therefore, it's a good idea to start from the first minutes of the game. Early missions will introduce you to the basics of crafting. Complete them to get your first gathering tools. With them in your equipment, begin searching for sources of raw materials. For example - the meat of slain animals will be useful while preparing food, and the green wood and flint you gather is necessary to construct your camp. However, keep in mind that you will be taxed for crafting items in settlements. To avoid this, create food and basic items in your own camps outside of the settlements.

Free items in settlements

It's worth knowing that you can get items for free in settlements. First of all, you can obtain water from the wells. Water can be used to heal yourself. It won't heal you by much, but it's a way to restore health completely free of charge. Aside from that, you can also obtain other items in settlements, such as honey used for crafting food.

Durability and object repair

Equipment in New World has its own durability. Using armor, weapons or tools slowly wears them down. If their durability reaches zero, the object becomes unusable. Therefore, you should remember to regularly fix your inventory items with Repair Parts and gold. Repair parts are obtained by destroying items - this can also be done in the inventory menu.

Destroying items provides some gold

Destroying objects doesn't just earn you the aforementioned repair parts. Once you destroy an item, you will also receive some gold. These are very small quantities, but it's better to destroy objects than to throw them on the ground.

Storage shed - storing items

In turn, items that you want to keep for later can be stored in the Storage Shed. They are available in each settlement and you will recognize them by the chest icon on the map. Keeping items in storage sheds is completely free (although their capacity is limited), but you need to keep in mind that they aren't connected to each other. This means that items stored in one storage shed cannot be accessed from other sheds.

Free fast travel

Fast travelling in New World is rather limited. First of all, it's only possible to teleport to previously discovered locations (except for spirit shrines, but there aren't that many of them on the map). Moreover, it costs Azoth to fast travel. The only way to teleport for free is to check in at the inns in the settlements - you can quickly travel to the inns for free every 60 minutes.

Unlocking the camp

You will unlock the previously mentioned camp after reaching the first settlement and completing the Man About Town quest. This is a very easy mission that simply requires you to talk to two characters. Once you have completed it, you will be able to build a camp at any time. To do this, leave the settlement and find a section of flat terrain without obstacles. To construct a camp, you will need 5 pieces of Green Wood and one piece of Flint.

Missions in settlements

In addition to completing the main quests, it's also worth checking out the missions in settlements. These are simple missions consisting of hunting particular animals or procuring specified resources. You will receive a bit of gold and experience, as well as increase the region's level, which translates into the ability to select bonuses (e.g. lower taxes or faster resource gathering in the area).

Fast experience gain

Leveling up in New World allows you to increase your character's stats and it also unlocks the option to use better items. Of course, the basic way to gain experience is by completing missions and killing enemies. However, it's worth knowing other, less obvious methods. Reading notes, journals or books provides dozens of experience points - they are scattered throughout the game world. You won't gain tons of experience, but at lower levels, it will noticeably speed up the leveling up process. Exploring new areas also provides some experience points.

You should also complete the missions in a given region to unlock its upgrades. One of the upgrades allows you to increase the amount of experience gained in that particular area. This affects all sources of experience - completing missions, killing enemies or reading notes.

First home discount

In New World, you can buy your own house - it will provide you with more space for storing items, as well as an additional teleportation point. Buying a house requires spending a lot of gold, but you get a 50% discount for your first house. Because of this, you should carefully consider where to build it.

Resetting abilities is free if your character is under level 20.

Character progression in New World is focused mainly on improving the attributes - Strength, Dexterity, or Intelligence. This choice should be based on your playstyle. However, it is worth knowing that you can reset attributes for free up to level 20. This is the perfect time to test different builds. After reaching this level, you can reset points, but you will need to pay in gold.
