Experience bonuses
Before we delve deeper into this topic, we should mention that it's possible to obtain experience bonuses. There are three ways to do this. The first way is by leveling up regions, as it allows you to purchase upgrades to increase the experience gained within the area. The second way is to enable PvP mode. With PvP mode enabled, you get a 5% experience bonus (of course, keep in mind that in this mode, you risk being attacked by members of hostile factions). The third way to gain experience faster in New World is by resting in the settlement. All you have to do is log out of the game while you're in the settlement. Once you have logged back into the game after a few hours, your character will receive a temporary experience bonus from resting.
Completing missions
The basic way to earn experience in New World is by completing missions. The most experience is gained for completing main missions. You will receive between several hundred and several thousand experience points for each mission.
However, there is a limited number of main missions. Because of this, it's also a good idea to complete repeatable faction and settlement quests. These are simple tasks that require you to kill specific opponents or deliver resources. Faction missions can be received from a representative of your faction, while settlement missions can be accessed in each settlement from the quest board.
Killing enemies
Most activities in New World involve killing enemies. The game world is brimming with different types of opponents and each of them will earn you a specific number of experience points. Of course, the higher the level of the opponent, the more experience you will get by killing them.
Reading notes
Reading notes, letters or books is a great way to gain additional experience points while exploring. Items of this type can be found not only in enemy locations, but also in settlements. You will only gain experience points after reading them for the first time, but you will usually find multiple notes or letters in the same area.
Crafting
Crafting in New World isn't just used to create new items. Each item you craft nets you a few experience points. This includes all craftable item types - food, weapons or furniture.
Collecting resources using tools
Sourcing materials for crafting also earns you some experience. Collecting resources that requires tools grants additional experience points. This turns gathering nearby herbs, chopping down trees and mining iron into worthwhile activities.
