Map size
The smallest island in the game is Isla Santuario. It could confuse you, as only the opening hours of the game are spent there. Isla Santuario is just the beginning. You discover more areas by progressing with the story. Yara is divided into 4 regions, 3 of which are very big. These include Madrugada, El Este and Valle De Oro. In each region you'll come across plenty of side activities, races, Yaran Stories or various secrets.
The last region is the capital of Yara - Esperanza. It is the largest city ever created in the Far Cry series. It consists of numerous streets and buildings. It's worth noting that part of this city is closed off with walls, buildings, control points and gates. You can only get past by reaching a specific place, such as the sewers that will let you get past the barricades.
We've described the map in more detail on separate pages of our guide.
- Game world - is it big?
- Can't reveal map - why?
- Fast travel - how to unlock and use?
- Esperanza - can you fly over it?

Flying
We must warn you right away: you won't uncover the map by moving above its surface. You can't use helicopters, planes or the wingsuit. You can only uncover the map while airborne by using the parachute. This lets you observe the world from above and examine newly discovered areas.
Means of quickly exploring the world
The map can be uncovered in various ways. It's a good idea to adapt based on the terrain you're currently on. Some areas feature many mountains, others can be easily traversed by car. To make exploration easier you can:
- Navigate the main roads with fast vehicles;
- Navigate the waters with boats and other swimming vehicles;
- Ride horses, which can take you to a point you marked on the map on their own;
- Use a parachute when possible;
- Use climbing ropes to climb in designated areas.
You can easily uncover the map via various activities. Main missions and sidequests often send you into new, unexplored areas. This lets you to explore the world and encounter many interesting secrets or activities.
Races and missions that require you to reach a given destination in time also work. Remember not to use any flying vehicles while doing them, or else you won't reveal anything.
Searching for secrets
As mentioned above, there are many side activities in the game. Some are easy to encounter, others require more focus and knowing exactly where to go. We've listed the locations of the secrets on separate pages of our guide. We'd like to mention, however, that many objects and secrets appear on the map and the mini-map. Those include:
- anti-tank guns,
- FND bases,
- roosters,
- races,
- USB songs,
- Criptograma chests,
- resource crates,
- spray cans crates,
- gun charm crates,
- treasure hunts,
- unique weapons.
The mini-map doesn't display:
- hidden stories,
- fishing spots (available on the main map),
- hunting locations (available on the main map),
- mythical animals (available on the main map).
NPCs reacting to the main character
By travelling across the map you'll encounter various NPCs. Enemies usually attack you on sight, even if you don't provoke them. This applies even more if you approach them with your weapon drawn, or if they're guarding something.
Other residents react in various ways. None of them are hostile. Some are scared of you, others ask for your help or insult you. There's no need to pay attention for them. You can freely take vehicles from them with no resistance, even if they get angry at you for it. Still, it's not a good idea to run around people with your weapon drawn. It'll grab the authorities' attention and frighten the residents.
If you initiate a gunfight, residents will, obviously, run away as fast as they can.
