Last update: 04 November 2021
This page of the Far Cry 6 game guide explains what character and visited regions' ranks are. We have also included hints on how to gain XP and advance to higher experience levels (higher ranks). This knowledge can help you play missions and explore regions later in the game.
Basic information about ranks
Ranks in Far Cry 6 are levels, and they have different importance for the main character and the game world.
A character's rank is his experience level. The easiest way to check the current rank is to go into the arsenal menu. You can advance to the next rank by accumulating experience points (more about that in the next subsection).
A rank of a region or mission is their level, and it affects the difficulty of the quest or fights with the enemies in that region. You should avoid starting quests and exploring regions whose current rank is higher than your character's rank at the moment. Return to these activities after you have advanced the hero.
Ignoring the high rank of a mission or a region of the world can cause you to have a lot of trouble eliminating the enemies you encounter, while they will more easily injure the main character.
An important note is that the initial region ranks don't remain the same throughout the game. As you progress through the main storyline, there will be a gradual increase in the levels of each region. In the final phase of the campaign, you should have a character of at least rank 14 because that should be the level of the locations where the last battles of the main storyline will take place.
An additional reason for character development should be that advancing the hero to higher ranks influences the offer of local merchants. They may offer you higher quality items, which will allow your character to deal more damage or gain valuable unique attributes (e.g. partial resistance to poisons). However, buying in stores is not mandatory because a lot of valuable items can also be obtained, for example, as loot you find during the exploration of the game world.
There are "only" 14 ranks in Far Cry 6, but reaching the 14th experience level does not complete character development. You will be able to continue to collect XP and advance to the next Comandante ranks.
How to earn XP?
The most obvious and best way to accumulate XP is to complete all of the activities from the journal. This refers to:
- operations (main missions),
- Yaran stories (side quests),
- treasure hunts,
- military targets(e.g. FND bases, posts).
The number of experience points you get is not fixed for all activities and may vary. For example, by completing a more important main mission, there is a chance to receive more experience points.
XP can be earned for dealing with the smaller red world map activities. This category includes attacks on FND convoys, ambushes, or races to obtain resources from supply drops. It is worth finishing these types of small optional tasks regularly.
You can also receive small amounts of XP for, among other things:
- Destroying military vehicles (rovers, helicopters, tanks, boats, etc.),
- Finding Idolsthat appear on the world map - example in the picture above,
- Destroying billboards located along main roads.
After you finish the main storyline, there is a new great method of gaining XP, and it involves Leaders. Identifying and eliminating Leaders is rewarded with large amounts of experience points. For a single action, you can receive from several hundred to even several thousand XP.
We've described these mechanics in more detail on a separate page, Insurgent Leaders.
