On this page of our guide to Far Cry 6 you'll find some tips and tricks regarding combat and stealth. You will learn how to keep your character alive during encounters with soldiers and hostile vehicles, as well as how to avoid detection and perform sneak attacks.
Direct encounters
Each enemy in the game has their own health bar, which could result in encountering so-called "bullet sponges" who require many shots to kill. Additionally, in Far Cry 6 headshots don't always mean an insta-kill. It's a result of RPG mechanics which the Far Cry series introduced in Far Cry New Dawn. Encountering tough and durable enemies should divert your attention towards the currently visited region's rank, as it symbolizes the strength of the enemies in the area (the regions' ranks gradually increase as you progress through the campaign). Avoid visiting areas with higher ranks than your character rank, as they could be quite challenging. You should return to them later, once your character is stronger (and better equipped).
To successfully eliminate the enemies you must be equipped with fitting gear - try to obtain new guns often and make sure your arsenal is varied, preparing yourself for different kinds of battles. For example, you should have separate weapons dedicated against unarmored targets, armored soldiers and hostile machines. Weapons also have their own ranks, although you should also pay attention to their unique features, such as poisoning enemies they hit. Youcan and should modify your weapons to increase their combat capabilities.
During open gunfights there are three important things you should keep in mind. Firstly, use cover to protect yourself from serious harm, especially when fighting large groups of enemies. You must remember that some available cover is breakable and enemies can force you to change your position by throwing grenades - you'll be notified of them by an icon, giving you some time to relocate.
Secondly, remember to use the radar which shows you the enemies' positions. You can use it to spot enemies who are approaching you or trying to flank you. Thanks to that you'll have some time to react.
Thirdly, and most importantly - watch out for your health bar and react immediately when it drops. Your health can regenerate over time, but you can also heal manually, which replenishes your HP much quicker (hold down the Triangle / Y button on the controller), but requires you to have at least one healing "charge". If you don't have any "free heals" at the moment, try not to take too many risks and avoid difficult situations.
Aside from many battles against regular soldiers, you must also be prepared to encounter elite troopers - they can appear in secure areas, main quests or during chases. Launcher-wielding enemies are incredibly dangerous, as they can kill you or seriously wound you with a single shot. Enemies setting up turrets and shield-bearers can also be problematic. Prioritise them, use your finest weapons and gadgets to attack them more efficiently.
Soldiers aren't the only foes you'll encounter - you'll also often need to face hostile machines. If possible, you should use your own vehicles to fight them, preferably armored ones and ones equipped with weapons.
The most problematic machines are tanks and attack helicopters, fights against them are very dangerous and require you to be careful. To destroy enemy vehicles you can use rocket/grenade launchers or explosive rounds in other guns, but you should also know that using EMP charges (such as the Volta supremo) to paralyze the vehicles. This may expose them to further gunfire or allow you to take them over (to take over a tank you need to quickly reach the hatch on its roof).
Covert action
Stealth, aside from a few exceptions (such as the penultimate story mission) isn't mandatory, but you need to know that if you're detected, you'll cause an alarm and summon reinforcements. Stealth is therefore recommended as your initial approach to encounters whenever possible. You should only initiate open combat when spotted.
Before entering each new hostile area, try to do at least some recon with your smartphone. First of all, it will let you discover the enemies' positions and tag them, that is, track their movements. It's very useful when trying to stay hidden, as it makes it less likely for you to be surprised by an enemy soldier coming nearby. Caution - Always examine rooftops, towers and elevated areas, they often serve as hiding spots for snipers who need to be efficiently eliminated.
During recon you should also tag vehicles (not the occupied ones, unused vehicles can be used in combat once you're detected), security cameras and alarms. You can safely destroy the cameras, preventing them from spotting your character or corpses of silently killed enemies. Disabling alarms, on the other hand, allows you to prevent enemies from calling reinforcements, but you must keep in mind that in larger hostile areas there could be more than a single alarm. You must make sure you find all of them.
During stealth it's very important to use silenced weapons, preventing the enemies from immediately detecting your presence. First of all, you can install supressors on selected weapons and it's recommended to always have at least one silenced weapon on hand (optimally two - for taking single shots from long distances and quick bursts at medium distances). You can also use a bow and a crossbow, but their biggest disadvantage is their nature - you won't be able to shoot rapidly when wielding them. They only work well when you have plenty of time to aim.
Instead of using silenced guns you can also quietly execute enemies with melee weapons. It's a good idea to use them if you can sneak behind a (single) enemy, as you'll be able to also immediately search their corpse. The game also features throwable weapons, in form of a gadget which first needs to be unlocked and then installed in your currently used Supremo.
During covert operations you can be assisted by Amigos, that is, pets. We advise you to unlock Chorizo the dachshund as soon as possible, as his unique ability allows you to distract enemies who can then be surprised or avoided. Nevertheless, in our opinion the best stealth-focused Amigo is Oluso the panther, due to her ability to efficiently ambush enemies and kill them without alarming others.
Far Cry 6 's HUD displays the enemies' alert levels. The game warns you when you enter an enemy's line of sight and are gradually "discovered", as well as when you end up alerting them. You'll have a short moment to react and quietly eliminate the alerted enemy before they alert everyone else, triggering an alarm.
There are various ways to reduce your chances of detection. First of all, you can look for unique gear boosting stealth - the piece of chest gear shown on the picture above reduces the noise your character makes when moving. You should also look for opportunities to surprise or avoid enemies by traveling on higher elevations, rooftops, as well as look for hiding spots along the way, such as dense bushes, where you can wait out a difficult situation or calmly plan your next move.
