On this page of the guide to Far Cry 6 you'll find the most important information regarding Special Operations. We explain how to start special operations, what are their general objectives, how to escort transported PG-240X containers and what kind of rewards you can get for completing the special operations.

What are special operations?

Special Operations are large-scale missions that can be repeated multiple times and take place on separate maps, that is, in areas loaded specifically for the mission, with the operation failing if you leave prematurely. Completing a single special operation should take you around 20-30 minutes on average. You can play the same operation multiple times on various difficulty levels to earn better rewards.

The areas where special operations take place differ from each other (for example, a prehistoric amusement park or a crocodile resort), but they all have the same goal - finding and stealing a PG-240X container, then bringing it to the evacuation point (we've described the process in more detail below).

Special operations allow you to use the equipment acquired during the main campaign, that is, all your weapons, gadgets, gear and Supremos. Your character's rank can also influence how challenging an operation is - the higher the rank, the higher your chances of successfully completing the special operation on a given difficulty.

You can only play through special operations when in online mode and connected to the game's servers. They do not require playing in co-op, however - you can finish them solo, though having someone to help could make the operation easier.

Starting an operation

You can start special operations by visiting Lola in guerrilla hideouts. She can be found in the main hideouts - Montero Farm in Madrugada, Patriotas Peak in El Este and Camp Maximas in Valle De Oro.

After talking to Lola, the Special Operations window will open. Here you have a few choices to make:

1) Choosing the special operation - Each operation takes place in a unique area, but they all share the same objective of obtaining the PG-240X container. We've described the course of a typical special operation further down this page.

2) Choosing the difficulty level - Only normal difficulty is available at first, but you can also unlock higher difficulties called the mastery levels.

Higher difficulty levels handicap the player in various ways. For example, the PG-240X container could overheat faster, you could encounter more elite enemies or have less lives.

3) Choosing the number of players - You can play through special operations alone (warning - this could be problematic on the highest difficulty levels) or in co-op - with someone from your friends list or with a random player found by matchmaking.

Finding PG-240X during the operation

One of the more challenging elements in special operations is your inability of using the map to check your current position. You must rely on maps found during the mission. The first one can be found in the starting point, you can find more in some visited areas. When looking at the map, pay attention to:

1. the general travel direction- use the compass to know whether you're going the right way,
2. paths and smaller locations along the way - during operations you can reach your objective in many different ways, you can also visit some optional areas and do some side objectives such as finding containers with loot or rescuing rebels,
3. the main destination - that being the area where the PG-240X container can be found.

You can encounter patrols or predators on your way to the main objective (e.g. crocodiles or eagles). You can always try to ambush enemy soldiers, but we recommend not to alarm all enemies too early, as it could make the operation much more difficult.

Your goal is always reaching the large area where PG-240X is stored. These areas are heavily guarded, so some reconnaissance could be helpful. Try to tag all visible enemies, identify the alarms and security cameras. You should also do your best to sabotage all security systems, as otherwise triggering an alarm will call reinforcements - among them there could even be helicopters, which are troublesome to eliminate.

During recon it's important to locate the FND commander. You must kill him and search his body to get an access card.

With the access card, you must find a large refrigerated crate storing the PG-240X weapon. Use the card on the crate to open it and take out the container.

Escaping with PG-240X during the operation

It's very important to know that you must not let the PG-240X container overheat, otherwise it will explode, kill you and fail the operation. The device's current temperature is displayed by large lights visible after taking it out of your inventory. You should know that you don't have to travel with the container being consantly out. You can hide it in your inventory, for example during fights, and then just select it again from the weapon wheel.

The container only heats up when you're in sunlight. This means you should find shelter and travel in the shadows whenever you have the chance. This should keep the temperature of the container consistent.

It's a good idea to plan your road back, as you must return back to the starting point. Look for areas offering shade and places where you can cool down the container (more about that below). Don't forget about the container even in combat - try to stay in the shadows for as long as possible even when shooting enemies and avoiding their fire.

Unfortunately, spending time in the shadows won't lower the container's temperature. The PG-240X container can only be cooled down by putting it in water.

Look around for places marked on the radar with the water droplet icon. These could be small water tanks or water barrels. By using these you can revert the container back to it initial state, that is, turn off all the temperature lights.

Unfortunately, just returning to the starting point isn't enough to finish the special operation. You must defend yourself and eliminate all the enemies that will appear in the area. Here are some valuable tips:

1. Before the first enemies arrive, try to spot some shady spots you can stay in. Don't spend all your time in the same area, you could be easily surrounded or forced to change your position if an enemy throws a grenade at you.
2. Use a silenced weapon for as long as possible to make it more difficult for enemies to locate you. Start using heavy weapons only once you're discovered.

1. Use the radar to check enemy positions. They could attack you from various angles, you should especially watch your back.
2. Expect at least one helicopter to join the battle. Your best bet is to use a good weapon loaded with explosive rounds, or to ground it with the Volta supremo and eliminate the crew before the helicopter can go airborne again.

Surviving the battle and defeating all enemies triggers a cutscene showing you leaving the operation area and shows you the summary screen.

Rewards for completing special operations

Special operations are required to earn certain trophies. You'll earn the Overheated achievement for completing your first special operation, while performing specific actions during the operation rewards you with the Stay Cool, Hidden Cash and Termination Phase trophies. All these achievements are described in detail in our trophy guide.

Each special operation allows you to earn some Moneda, a special currency you can spend in Lola's shop to buy good from the black market - to do so you need to enter the second tab (as shown on the picture above). This way you can obtain new weapons, new clothes or cosmetics for your guns and Rides.

Completing special operations can also reward you with Los Bandidos Recruits, as well as random weapons and clothes. The game informs you of the potential rewards once you start the mission, so you never have to guess what you'll get.
