AC Shadows: How to unlock the forge?

Forge is one of the basic buildings that you can build in your Hideout in Assassin's Creed Shadows. On this page of the guide, you will learn what you will need to do to create a Forge, how you can improve it, and what weapons and armor you can upgrade in it.

How to build a Forge?

Building a Forge is one of the first tasks you will receive in the game. After the linear prologue in Naoe's story, Tomiko will send you on a mission to the city of Sakai as part of the Way of the Blacksmith quest. Your objective will be to find Heiji.

You will find him in the northern part of the city. Get rid of the guards bothering him and start a conversation. Heiji will gladly accept your proposal to join the residents of the Hideout.

After returning to the Hideout, you will have the opportunity to build a Forge. Open the building menu and select the Forge in the Buildings tab. To build it, you will need:

1. 40x straw;
2. 30x wood;
3. 10x stones.

If you do not have the necessary materials, look for them in the game world. They most often occur in hostile camps, castles, and other fortifications.

After building the forge, there will be a short cutscene with Heiji and Tomiko, after which you will be able to freely use the forge.

What is a Forge used for?

A Forge is a building used for upgrading weapons and armor. In a levelled up Forge you can also engrave special inscriptions on your equipment, which will grant them additional effects.

To enter the Forge menu, talk to Heiji stationed there. In the first tab, you can choose the equipment item you want to upgrade. Every improvement requires obtaining specific materials. You can obtain these while exploring the world or by buying them from merchants.

The second tab in the Forge menu will also help you in acquiring materials, as this is where you can dismantle unnecessary items. Once dismantled, they disappear from your inventory, but in return you receive a certain amount of materials.

The Forge has 3 upgrade ranks:

1. Rank 1 - allows to upgrade and dismantle weapons and armor up to level 20;
2. Rank 2 - allows you to upgrade and dismantle weapons and armor up to level 40 and apply engravings other than legendary. Upgrading to Rank 2 costs 350x straw, 260x wood, and 90x stones.
3. Rank 3 - allows you to upgrade and dismantle weapons and armor up to level 60 and apply legendary engravings. Upgrading to Rank 3 costs 700x straw, 520x wood, and 170x stones.

Engravings grant objects additional effects. Legendary engravings resemble perks. If utilized well, they can become the basis of your build.
