Table of Contents

This guide page for Assassins Creed Shadows has an interactive world map - a section of Japan available for free exploration. The main regions on the map are Izumi Settsu, Yamashiro, Omi, Iga, Yamato, Harima, Wakasa, Kii and Tamba. From our map, you can find out, e.g. where to look for Kofun tombs, Hidden Trails, Codex, Jizo Statues, Vendors, Castles, Shrines, Temples, Mission Targets, Legendary Chests, Quest Objectives, Quest Items, Viewpoints, Kakeruga, Hideout and Naoe and Yasuke activities. This will bring you closer to exploring 100% of all provinces in AC Shadows.

How to unlock the world map?

The world map isn't available from the very start of the game. You must first play through the prologue as Yasuke, then as Naoe. You'll only unlock the world map after reaching Makinoodera Temple in the Izumi Settsu region. There you'll need to complete a few simple tasks. After the main quest From Spark to Flame begins, the entire map will be made available.

Attention - Remember that the main regions of the world have recommended experience levels. We advise against entering them at a lower level, as even common enemies will be insurmountable. First focus on regions with lower level requirements.

Viewpoints, Kakeruga and Hideout

All these locations are primarily used for fast travel. You can unlock Viewpoints by climbing tall structures (rooftops, giant trees and the like) marked on the map with an eagle icon. This permanently unlocks them.

Kakeruga are small hideouts you have to purchase for 800 Mon each. Aside from serving as fast travel spots, they also have additional functions - inside you can replenish Supplies, Scouts, use Storage and browse Contracts.

The hideout is the most important allied location in the game world. You can build buildings there (among others forge), collect resources gathered by scouts, use various services or meet with friendly characters.

You can find more information on this topic on the page How does fast travel work?.

Quests, Quest Objectives and Quest Items

Our interactive map is full of markers tied to main and side quests. We show quest givers and areas, where quests can automatically start.

We've also marked important quest areas and characters. The game often makes you find them on your own or through Scouts, but our markers will tell you exactly where to look. We also marked important items from tasks (e.g. butterflies, unique loads), which may be helpful or required in their completion.

Naoe and Yasuke exclusive activities

Additional markers on our interactive map may warn that a specific activity may be available only for Yasuke or Naoe. This mainly includes specific tombs and side quests. While the game will let you know you need a specific character once you're there, our map could help you save time.

Kofun - Tombs

Kofun are tombs, which function similarly to those from previous Assassins Creed games. Each tomb is a series of environmental puzzles you must solve to progress.

At the end of each tomb you'll find a chest holding legendary gear and other valuable rewards.

Kuji-kiri and Kata

These are unique optional activities for the main characters - Kuji-kiri is for the Naoe, and Kata is available for Yasuke.

Completing them may unlock flashback missions for both characters. In addition to this, you can gain XP and Knowledge Points.

Targets

On our interactive map you'll learn where to find targets to locate/assassinate. These can be both elite enemies from the main storyline, as well as optional individuals to find, who represent various categories from the Objectives screen (e.g. Yokai or Ronins).

Hidden Trails and Horse Archery

These are optional activities tied to the main characters. Hidden Trails are exclusive to Naoe, being obstacle courses which end with a treasure chest.

Horse Archery is exclusive to Yasuke, having him shoot down targets while mounted.

Vendors

While exploring the world you'll encounter many traders, all of whom we've marked on the map.

Food Vendors can provide you with food and increase your Rations limit. Gear Vendors, Ornament Vendors, and Port Traders trade various items. You can also sell off unnecessary junk to them.

Codex and Jizo Statues

These are tiny collectibles scattered all around the world. Codex are levitating Animus fragments that unlock new entries in the in-game encyclopedia. Jizo Statues are places where you can make an offering and in return receive some XP.

Castles, Shrines and Temples

Our map also shows larger unique areas you may encounter on your journey. They can have their own rewards and a list of goals (e.g. the murder of all Samurai Daisho, finding the scrolls or praying at all the shrines).

We've also marked smaller locations on the world map. Some may be occupied by enemies or tied to quests.
