Assassin's Creed Shadows: Can you pet animals?
As you travel around Japan in AC Shadows, you are bound to come across many species of animals - wild and domesticated. From this page of the guide you will learn which of them you can pet and how you can bring them to your hideout.
Last update:
Japan in Assassin's Creed Shadows is inhabited by a wide range of diverse animals. Some of them can only be admired and sketched from afar, but many of them are actually friendly and will allow you to pet them and even invite them into your Hideout. On this guide page, you will learn which animals you can interact with and how you can invite them to your own Hideout.
Which animals can you pet?
Japan is inhabited by many domesticated animals. Multicolored dogs and cats lead the way here. When you come across such an animal, you can approach it and then pet it by pressing the button displayed on the screen.
Petting a new type of pet (a previously undiscovered fur color already counts as a new type) will automatically allow you to summon it to your Hideout (you can learn more about the Hideout on this page). So, it's worth keeping your eyes wide open and playing with as many animals as possible. This way, you will be able to spruce your place up with some fluffy, furry friends.
An alternative way to acquire new species for the Hideout is to find them in their natural environment and sketch them. Some of the painted animals (e.g. roe deer) can be invited to your settlement later on.
When you spot an opportunity to sketch, carefully sneak closer to the animal until the circle in the center of the screen fills up. You need to be careful, as wild animals are easily scared.
Tsuki-Maru is a distinctive pet type: it's a stray dog, which you can tame as part of the Thrown to the Dogs quest. Unfortunately, this option is only available for people who purchased the game before its release. You can learn more about it on the page Where to find the dog in Thrown to the Dogs?.
How to put animals in the Hideout?
To summon a pet to the Hideout, enter the building mode. From the building catalog, select the tab marked with a dog's snout. You can now choose any animal and then place it in the selected location of the settlement. The game allows for summoning many animals of the same type, so nothing can stop you from turning your hideout into an animal sanctuary.
