It’s almost time for Assassin’s Creed Shadows release. Soon we will be able to experience XVIth century Japan with shinobi Naoe and samurai Yasuke. The game will be available on March 20. Noone should be surprised that the title will be launched on multiple platforms at the same time – PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X / S. What about a little bit older devices like Switch, PS4 and Xbox One?

If you would like to see AC Shadows on the previous generation consoles, we must worry you. The official announcement is that the title will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X / S, PC and Macs with Apple silicon. The interesting part is that developers also confirmed the iPad version. It will be released in the further future, though. However, no information on the old generation consoles. So, it will probably never happen.
As someone can argue that Switch, PS4 and Xbox One are quite old and it is expected that new games will not appear on these platforms anymore, we need to remind that they do. Recently we have seen Sid Meier’s Civilization VII or Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii and there is more to come this year. Of course, it depends a lot on how resource-intensive the game is. The general rule is that the prettier the game, less likely it is to be compatible with older hardware.
Sadly, while the games are still launched on the consoles of previous generation, be prepared that this support will end at some point. Year after year fewer and fewer new titles will be available. It’s a circle of life.
