Chapter 14 information
In this chapter, Nate and Sam will be exploring individual parts of Libertalia. Your exploration of the village will be interrupted twice, when you encounter larger groups of mercenaries You will be able to act from shadows then or defeat them in direct fire exchange. There are quite a few collectibles here - nine treasures, four journal entries, two journal notes and as any as six optional conversations with Sam.
Exploration of Libertalia - part 1
Do not hurry to leave the starting are because there is the first collectible around. Climb onto the wall on the right and cross the small opening. You will reach a neighboring room, of the dilapidated building, where there is the first treasure (Carved Horned Bird Sculpture) shown in the above screenshot. After you collect the treasure, jump down to a ledge below and wait for the icon of optional conversation to appear above Sam's head. This is when you can have the first one.
Go right now and remain on the rooftops in the right part of the village. You will reach a small cottage that you can jump into across the window. In the cottage, you find the first journal note. Jump down and find the nearby forge. Interact with it to watch a short cutscene starring Sam. After the cutscene ends, wait for the option to have the second optional conversation to become available.
Then, find a building with a hole in one of its corners. It is in the left part of the village and it is a cantina. You can climb to the upper floor there and interact with the chair by the table with two beers on it. Here, you will complete the third optional conversation. During the conversation, press Triangle to select dialogue options, or Circle to end the conversation. Walk over to the neighboring building - stables. See the horse skeleton there, thanks to which you receive the first journal entry and have the fourth optional conversation.
You can go on now. Follow the main village path, stop by the plaque and interact with it to receive the second journal entry. To your right, there is a building veiled in fog. Enter the building and explore the ground floor. In a small room under the stairs, you find the second treasure (Mughal Vase). Exit the building and go straight ahead. Stop after you reach the large Avery's statue. Examine the symbol at the back of its base to obtain the third journal entry. At this moment, Sam should approach the prisoner-holding device. Approach him and interact with him, thanks to which you will obtain two collectibles, as a result of a single action - a new optional conversation and the fourth journal entry.
Take a look at the building behind Avery's statue you determine that this is a prison. In the middle cell of the prison, there is another treasure (Ancient Stone Pot). You can obtain it by entering the cell on the left and squeezing under the bars. Then, go towards the building on the opposite side of the road. Cross the building and climb into the hole above. In the next room, find a passage to a small mine.
Reach a larger chamber and take a look at the map of Libertalia. You can now go ahead. Find the ladder and climb up. Soon, you will reach a fork, where you should go right first, because there is another treasure (Painted Copper Bottle) at the end of the runnel. After you have obtained the item, go into the left corridor. Reach the room with grappling point, and use grappling hook. Start lowering yourself. Take a swing, and leap towards the ruins. There are mercenaries here and you will have to consider your options when it comes to eliminating them.
Encounter with the first group of mercenaries
There are several ways in which you can behave here. If you are playing on one of the lower difficulty levels, you can try to sneak past them across the entire area, or at least across a large part of it. In such a situation, you can use ledges and you can hide in high grass. A good idea is to eliminate single guards when they stand by the edge, by the window or approach the high grass where you can hide their bodies.
At higher difficulty levels, it is recommended that you kill all of the enemies. At the same time, try to act from shadows for as long as possible. Thanks to this, you will obtain ammo, better weapons and grenades. After the fighting starts, avoid standing in open areas and escape quickly from grenades thrown your way. Later on, also watch out for the snipers shown in the above screenshot. To defeat them, you can use the Mazur LDR sniper rifle that you find around, or e.g. throw them several grenades. If you are playing on a higher difficulty level, also a heavily-armored opponent with shotgun can appear here. Use grenades or the best weapons that you have to remove his helmet and shoot him with a bullet to the head.
Regardless of your tactic, Sam and Nate have to make it over to the building shown in the above screenshot. It is located next to the tower with snipers.
Exploration of Libertalia - part 2
Enter the building, jump down to a lower level and take a look around for the second journal note. Make it over to a brighter area here, you can obtain a treasure (Mughal Jade Bottle) shown in the above screenshot that you find on a small ledge above (you have to climb there). Move on, jump towards the metal arms and grab on to the ledge on the building wall. In a few moments, Nate and Sam will approach ruins that are being guarded by mercenaries.
Encounter with the second mercenary group
Just like in the case of the previous group, you can try to act from shadow. This time, however, this is going to be more difficult because man of the opponents have the advantage of height and therefore have a wider field of vision. However, if you still want to play in this style here, move around in the hanging position as often as possible, hide in high grass and use grappling points to get around faster.
Try to remain undetected for as long as possible, especially at higher difficulty levels. This is so, because you can encounter two armored enemies here. They are armed with shotguns and this can kill you quickly. Try to weaken those enemies, e.g. with grenades or grenade launcher) before they spot you. Then, collect Condor shotgun from one of them and use it to deal with the other one. When it comes to location that provides advantage, it is best to fight in the highest point of the ruins, because it is easier to keep track of enemy actins this way. Apart from that, there are more walls and indestructible obstacles there.
Your destination is the dilapidated building shown in the above screenshot, in the right part of the ruins. If you are playing on a lower difficulty level, you should be able to get there without fighting at all. Regardless of the circumstances, you first need to find out where Nate can give Sam a boost up and use his help afterwards to leave the ruins.
Find the treasure vault
Walk by carefully, by the wall, and reach the building exit. Grab on to one of the ledges here and climb up the ladder. Keep climbing and, after a while, you will reach the top of the tower. Once there, locate the grappling point and use it to reach the white building. After you get to a new ledge, first go right and find the grappling point shown in the above screenshot. To reach it, you have to leap towards the chasm and use grappling hook in mid-air. Lower yourself and reach the room below, where you find another treasure (Slipjoint Claspknife).
Again, use grappling hook to return to the white building. Find the window across which to climb inside. Walk into the next room and use grappling hook again. After you get to another ledge, go left first. Along the narrow passage, you will get to another treasure (Large Bronze Boar). Return to where you dropped down, go right and find another grappling point. Take a swing on the line, take a leap, climb to the opening in the wall and slide down the slippery slope. This will get you to the largest room in the ruined building.
First, climb the stairs in the right side of the room. Go to the right balcony above, jump over the hole and collect the treasure (Stout Vase) from the desk. You can now return downstairs and cross the passage to another location. This way, you will walk out into a big yard, where you have been fighting earlier. Start by having the last optional conversation with Sam. Then, examine the right side of the yard, thanks to which you find a treasure (Mughal Serving Vase) behind one of the posts. You can now go towards the big passage to get to the treasure vault. Pull the lever and push the door to end this chapter.
