Sneaking as young Nathan
During this chapter you will be controlling young Nathan and you will learn all the basic information about controls. Go through the open window and march along the roofs. After reaching a steep roof get on top of a metal device and climb up the wall. Go a little further, jump across a low wall and slide down another steep roof. Your destination is an open window, which you must use to get into another part of the orphanage. Open the door leading to the corridor. This is the first section in which you must sneak around the area - in this case to prevent sister Catherine and father Ryan Duffy from finding you. Run a little bit forward, press the "circle" button and hide behind the wall on the left side of the new room. Wait for Catherine and Duffy to end their conversation and leave the area. You can now explore father Duffy's office located on the right side. There's a document about Nathan inside that room - you will be able to read it.
After you're done exploring, head to the larger room located on the left side. You must again avoid getting detected by sister Catherine. Hide behind the cabinets closest to your position and start moving counter-clockwise. After reaching the end of cover, you must wait for sister Catherine to turn around towards the window and quickly jump to another cover. Wait for sister to be called by father Duffy and jump through another window. After Nathan climbs the edge, lower yourself and start traveling to the left. After a short while you will be forced to perform a jump towards neighboring roof. Make use of the interactive ledges on the right side of the screen, head towards the gutter and climb it to the top. After reaching the roof approach the flashlight to meet with Sam. From this moment onwards you have to follow his tracks.
Climbing and following Sam
Approach one of the walls and climb on top of a ledge located above with the help of Sam. After a short while you will need to climb on top of a small tower. After reaching the highest ledge move to the left and jump onto a ledge located to the left, behind Nathan's back. Slide down the steep roof and approach the closed door, where a short cut-scene will initiate. Sam will use his grappling hook for the first time. After he reaches the higher ground, approach the rope, grab onto it and climb it (by pressing and holding the L1 button). Move a little bit to the left and climb on top of another roof. Continue following Sam. After a short while you will need to perform a long jump. Nathan will hesitate during the first attempt, but the second one will end in a success.
Grab onto the ledge located at the base of the clock tower and move to the left. After reaching another ledge head straight ahead. You need to crouch to squeeze through. Perform another jump, go along a very narrow roof and jump to the metal cross, to reach the neighboring roof. Approach Sam, grab onto the rope and swing it back and forth to gain momentum. Use it to jump to and reach a new ledge visible in the distance. Continue your journey, reach a new tower and travel to the right. Pass the corner of it and start climbing the vertical shutters to reach the upper shelf where Sam is waiting for you.
Travel towards another tower and observe Sam's behavior. You must do exactly like him. Move all the way to the left side, let go of the metal arm and slide down the steep roof. At the end of this slide you must perform a long jump that will allow Nathan to reach a nearby shelf (remember not to press the button too late!). After a short march Sam will give Nathan his grappling hook. Aim it and shoot it at the interactive attachment point marked by the game. Swing it to gain momentum and reach a small illuminated balcony. Finally, reach the ladder, grab onto it and slide down to reach the lower ground. After a short while a cut-scene will initiate, ending the chapter and advancing you to the next one.
