This page of the My Time at Sandrock guide is dedicated to combat - among others, we've described the types of weapons that you'll employ to eliminate opponents. We've also included advice on how to fight effectively and what to keep in mind during battle.
Types of weapons
Your character can choose to specialize in five different types of melee weapons. It's key to pick one that best suits you and your playstyle, as well as to invest in a specific weapon type on the skill tree. Over time, you will also gain access to ranged weapons, but these should be treated as an additional tool during combat.
- Greatswords - they deal a lot of damage to your enemies, but lack attack speed. We recommend using them against enemies with tons of Health Points.
- Spears - they allow you to can attack from a small distance, which is useful in keeping melee enemies at bay. Spears also have a good attack speed to damage ratio.
- Daggers - they are by far the fastest weapon available and are perfect for instantly bringing down an opponent's defences. Their quick attack speed more than compensates for their meager damage output.
- Swords and Shields - they are ideal for those who seek the perfect balance between attack and defence. Despite the sword's modest damage, the ability to block attacks with the shield allows for a more strategic approach to combat.
- Hammers - they are by far the strongest weapons available in the game. Although their attack speed is extremely slow, they deal devastating damage to enemies. You'll need some practice to use the hammer effectively, and it won't work well against speedy opponents.
- Throwing Bombs and Pistol - both these weapons are effective at initiating combat. They work great as the first source of damage. Remember that bombs are one-use while Pistol requires bullets - without them, it is useless.
Crafting weapons in the Forging Machine
There are three variants of each weapon - Stone, Bronze, and Iron. Stone weapons can be crafted through the Worktable. Bronze and Iron ones can only be crafted by using Forging Machine.
To build a Forging Machine, you need:
- Forging Machine blueprint - unlockable at Qi by spending 6 Data Discs. The blueprint will arrive to your mailbox after 3 days.
- Copper Stick x3 - craftable at Processor by spending 6 Copper Bars (can be smelted at the Furnace)
- Marble Brick x4 - you can smelt them at the Furnace by spending 16 Marble (this raw material is obtained at Hard Rock nodes and Monuments).
- Bronze Bars x6 - craftable in Furnace by spending 18 Copper Ore and 12 Tin Ore (both materials are easily obtainable in Eufaula Salvage Abandoned Ruins)
- Metal Coil x2 - found in Eufaula Salvage Abandoned Ruins in layers 7 to 11 - they are marked with a yellow diamond symbol, but their appearance is random. Additionally, you can buy these at Eufaula Salvage Shop for 65 Gols apiece.
Once you got all the materials, use them on the blueprint in Assembly Station and place Forging Machine anywhere in your workshop.
From now on, you can craft Bronze and Iron weapons. Simply choose the item you're interested from the menu, and you'll see the list of crafting materials needed. If you got the needed items, press Craft.
Fighting tips
Combat in My Time at Sandrock isn't particularly challenging and you'll come out of most battles entirely unscathed. However, to make combat encounters easier, it's worth keeping a few things in mind.
- Stay on the move - avoiding enemy attacks is the key to surviving fights. Run around the area and wait for the right moment to strike and deal as much damage as possible.
- Change weapons during combat - during battle, you can quickly switch between available weapons. There's nothing stopping you from reducing your opponent's defenses instantly with daggers, then switching to a greatsword to inflict massive damage.
- Focus on combos - once you manage to attack, try to make as many strikes as possible. Enemy defenses regenerate over time, so it's important to do as much damage as possible while the enemy is vulnerable.
- Keep an eye on your health bar - when your Health Points are reduced to zero, the game ends and you will need to load the last save. Sometimes it's better to run away from a fight and return once you get stronger.
- Take care of your defense - just like your enemies, your character also has a certain defense level that protects you from damage. When your opponent breaks through your defenses, retreat to a safe distance and wait until your defence regenerates to a safe level.
- Watch out for groups of enemies - while attacking your opponent, you might accidentally hit a different enemy, turning them hostile. Whenever possible, avoid fighting mutliple enemies at once.
- Check the enemy's level - in most cases, you will be able to defeat higher level opponents, but be careful not to act too hastily. A lot depends on the type of enemy, so pay attention to the information about the enemy's level. It's displayed above the health bar. Additionally, opponents who are stronger than you are marked in orange.
