Preparing for the quest and starting it
This quest activates automatically after completing the Where's Mi-an quest. The next day you'll receive a letter from Yan, who'll task you with rebuilding the Water Tower and hand over the necessary blueprints.
This quest is quite time-consuming, so you should keep some things in mind and prepare accordingly.
- Head to Gecko Station Ruins - dig up as much Iron and Manganese Ore as you can.
- Make sure your water tank and Fire Powered Generator are properly supplied - you'll need to produce a ton of resources and your machines will be constantly running. You should have your tanks full to cool and power your devices.
- Disassemble the Ruined Bus Frame every day - you'll find the old bus in the middle of the Eufaula Salvage Yard. It respawns daily and is a great source of materials, including the less common ones.
- Recycle as much Iron Scrap as possible - use the Civil Recycler to constantly recycle Iron Scrap. This will grant you a ton of Steel Bars and Iron Latches. Latches are difficult to craft, but the recycler can make it significantly easier.
- Change the game speed - this quest can drag for a really long time due to the amount of resources you need to craft. Changing the game speed can make the process much shorter. We've described how to do this on the Game speed - how to change? page.
Recycle Water Tower
First head to Martle's Oasis and dismantle the old Water Tower with your Pickhammer. This will reward you with 5x Iron Scrap, 2x Hardwood Sticks and 3x Dregs.
Return to your workshop and use the Assembly Station. You must use all three blueprints you got from Yan to complete the Water Tower.
Construct Tower Frame
Building the Tower Frame requires following materials:
- Iron Plate x6 - can be crafted in the Civil Processor by using 18x Steel Bar (can be smelted in the Furnace or obtained by processing Iron Scrap in the Recycler).
- Steel Frame x2 - can be crafted at the Intermediate Worktable by using 8x Cast Iron Rod (can be crafted in the Processor by using 8x Steel Bar), 12x Manganese Steel Bar (can be smelted in the Furnace by using 36x Iron Ore and 24x Manganese Ore) and 4x Copper Screw (can be obtained by processing 2x Copper Bars in the Grinder).
- Bronze Pipes x4 - can be obtained by processing 8x Bronze Bars in the Grinder (can be smelted in the Furnace by using 24x Copper Ore and 16x Tin Ore).
- Iron Latch x8 - can be easily obtained by processing Iron Scrap in the Civil Recycler. You've done it many times, so you probably have a large supply. If not, you can craft an Iron Latch in the Civil Grinder by using 16x Steel Bar after purchasing the blueprint from the Commerce Guild Store.
Use all the resources shown on the blueprint and stash the Tower Frame in your inventory.
Construct Water Filter
Building the Water Filter requires following materials:
- Filtration Core x2 - can be crafted at the Intermediate Worktable by using 4x Fiber Mesh (can be found in the Eufaula Salvage Abandoned Ruins on floors 1-6), 12x Graphite (can be found in the Gecko Station Ruins) and 2x Copper Pipe (can be obtained by processing 4x Copper Bars in the Grinder).
- Pumping Pipe x2 - can be crafted at the Intermediate Worktable by using 10x Rubber Tube (can be crafted in the Processor by using 30x Rubber), 8x Glass (can be smelted in the Furnace by using 32x Dinas) and 8x Rubber Ring (can be obtained by processing 24x Rubber in the Grinder).
- Iron Latch x6 - can be acquired the same way as before, when building the Tower Frame.
After obtaining all the resources use them on the Water Filter blueprint and stash it in your inventory.
Construct Water Tank
Building the Water Tank requires following materials:
- Valve x2 - can be crafted at the Intermediate Worktable by using 4x Bronze Bars (can be smelted in the Furnace) and 2x Rubber Shell (can be crafted in the Processor).
- Iron Plate x8 - can be crafted the same way as before, when building the Tower Frame, using proportionally more resources.
- Bronze Pipes x4 - can be crafted the same way as before, when building the Tower Frame, using proportionally more resources.
- Manganese Steel Bar x6 - can be smelted in the Furnace by using 18x Iron Ore and 12x Manganese Ore.
After obtaining all the resources use them on the Water Tank blueprint and stash it in your inventory.
Install Water Tower Component
Return to the place where you dismantled the old Water Tower and install all three components in the designated place. Doing so triggers a cutscene, during which Matilda and Yan will reward you for your hard work. This completes the quest.
Appetite for Construction is currently the final main quest available in My Time at Sandrock. Remember the game is still in Early Access - more main quests may be added in the future. If they are added, you'll find their walkthroughs in the updated version of our guide.
