As you progress through Like a Dragon: Ishin, you may wonder whether the game has a point of no return, i.e. a sequence that will prevent you from freely exploring the world until you are done with the objective. This page explains when you are forced to focus on the plot and how to prepare for the game's finale.
This page has spoilers regarding the general structure of the final chapters of the game - you can find out, for example, that the hero is going to location X and that he will stay there for some time. You will not find typical story spoilers about how the fate of the main characters will unfold, or how exactly the main story will end.
Being away for a longer period in chapter 11
Chapter 11 doesn't have a proper point of no return yet, but the heroes must embark on a bigger journey. After reaching Teradaya Inn, you need to talk with Otose and confirm that you are ready - I'm prepared dialogue option.
You should take a lot of medicine with you on this trip, because you won't be able to buy anything for a long time.
The heroes will go by boat to Edo Castle, where you have to fight multiple opponents, ending with a boss fight.
After returning to Kyo, you will start chapter 12, which does not have free exploration. It is a series of fights with subsequent bosses. The good news is that in Kyo you will encounter individual traders offering e.g. medicines.
Chapter 13 will let you freely explore Kyo again - you will be able to resume optional activities or continue the main storyline.
Point of no return - chapter 14 (Finale)
The actual point of no return is triggered in the final 14th chapter. After meeting with Oryo, you will return to Shinsengumi Barracks and you will have to win a few fights. Finally, you have to talk to Okita and confirm that you are ready to start the finale - I have nothing left to do dialog option.
Be sure to take as much medicine with you as possible and get good equipment (weapons, Gear). In the game's finale, you will face many demanding battles, not only with the final boss, but also with numerous regular opponents and minor bosses.
The heroes will go on a boat again and the whole finale will take place in a separate location.
Fortunately, you can continue playing even after finishing the storyline - we have described the Bakumatsu Premium Adventure mode on a separate page: Is there an endgame?.
