Placing a dog house and a cat bed on the farm
There are several Pets Ryoma can adopt - three different dogs and three different cats. We've listed where to find them further down the page. Each Pet is tied to a separate small Substory. Completing it unlocks their Bond, letting you develop it. Once you raise the Bond to 100%, you can name the animal and adopt it.
Pets become available in Chapter 4 at the earliest. You must first unlock the farm, which can become a new home for them.
You must spend Virtue to buy facilities for cats and dogs:
- Dog House Setup - This is a dog house. Try to at least spend 500 Virtue to purchase the first one available. You can also buy progressively better dog houses, costing you 7,000 Virtue total.
- Cat Bed Setup - This is a cat bed. Try to at least spend 500 Virtue to purchase the first one available. You can also buy progressively better cat beds, costing you 7,000 Virtue total.
Cat #1 - Filthy Cat
Linked Substory: Substory #55 - The Filthy Cat
You'll find this cat on a pier in the southern part of the Fushimi district (South Yashikimachi). Each interaction with it ends in a bathhouse visit. After the last visit you can adopt the cat.
Cat #2 - Hungry Cat
Linked Substory: Substory #28 - The Hungry Cat
This cat is easily missable. It lies on the ground in the central part of the Rakugai district (East Umekojicho). You must feed it with any kind of fish (caught during the fishing mini-game or purchased at the fishing shop in Fushimi).
Cat #3 - Lucky Cat
Linked Substory: Substory #17 - The Lucky Cat
You'll find this cat in the north-western part of the Rakunai district (Karasuma Street). You must give it money, with the last donation requiring 1 Ryo. The lucky cat will run east. Defeat the bandits you'll encounter there to gain 5 Ryo and adopt the cat.
Dog #1 - Barking Dog
Linked Substory: Substory #16 - The Barking Dog
You'll find the stray barking dog in an alley in the eastern part of the Rakunai district (Teramachi). You can bring it Bones to play with - they can be purchased for 100 Mon at the nearby Ebisu Pawn Rakunai. After fully developing the Bond, Ryoma will prevent the dog from being euthanized and adopt it.
Dog #2 - Injured Dog
Linked Substory: Substory #36 - The Injured Dog
You'll find the injured dog in the northern part of the Mukurogai district. You can treat it by giving it medicine from your inventory - even the cheapest Ointment will do. At the end of the substory you'll learn the dog's being abused by two thugs. Ryoma will deal with them and adopt the dog.
Dog #3 - Patient Dog
Linked Substory: Substory #54 - The Patient Dog
This dog is lying on the ground in the western part of the Fushimi district (Yashikimachi). You can bring it food - any food from your inventory will do. After maxing out the Bond you'll learn the dog's previous owner has died. Ryoma will then adopt it.
Interacting with adopted animals
All adopted animals end up on your farm. The dogs are outside, while the cats are indoors.
There are three available interactions for each pet - feed it (doesn't consume any food from your inventory), play with it or pet it.
Pets can get you rewards. After completing a Trade Order, the questgiver might leave a gift for one of the animals. Said gift is always a rare crafting material.
