KCD2: How to find the Thunderstone?
The Thunderstone is a side quest from the second region of the game. From this guide page, you will learn how to get the thunderstone and who to give it to.
The Thunderstone is a long side quest during which Henry sets out in search of the titular stone, which is said to bring luck. On this guide page, we described how to activate the quest, where to find the thunderstone, and who to give it to.
The mission contains a softlock - its last part will guide you to Suchdol, which is abandoned after completing the main storyline. So, take care of this quest before completing the main storyline, i.e. before passing the point of no return in the Oratores main quest.
How to start The Thunderstone quest?
To activate The Thunderstone quest, you must first talk to the innkeeper in Grund village. Ask him what's happening in the area, and he will tell you about Kona, a local village girl who needs help. Talk to Kona in the same village, and she will give you a task to obtain the thunderstone that brings luck from Thomlin. You can ask her why she needs the stone (Speech - Medium) - she hopes it will ease her upcoming childbirth after the early death of many of her newborns.
How to get the thunderstone?
Go to Horschan and talk to Thomlin. To obtain the stone, you can steal it (it will turn out to be fake) or challenge him to a fistfight. Thomlin will refuse to fight, unless you convince him (Coercion, Domination, Unarmed - Hard) or defeat his three hired hands first. When Thomlin agrees to fight, you will have to place a bet of 500 groschen. Thomlin is a surprisingly tough opponent, often countering your blows - focus on kicks and try to dodge behind him and hit him from the back. After the victory, you will find out that Thomlin no longer has the stone - it has been stolen from him.
Go to Peter who lives in Raborsch. He also doesn't have the stone - he is in the bandit's camp, held by his imprisoned friend, Hensel. Head east from the village, to the forest, where you will find the camp. You can get rid of the bandits or quietly free Hensel at night - they are keeping him in a hut on the outskirts of the camp. Hensel tells you that the bandit leader took his stone and sold it to Mlada from Suchdol.
Mlada from Suchdol has a stone - you can steal it from her or agree to an exchange. You will receive the stone in exchange for healing her husband, another Peter in this quest. Examine the sick man (Dexterity, Vitality - Hard, Strength - Easy). Examining him will give you additional possibilities during treatment. Your diagnosis is that Peter has a paralyzing anxiety. You can give the patient chamomile broth, advise a change in diet (Scholarship - Medium), pray (Speech - Hard), convince him that you have cast a healing spell on him (Speech - Very Hard), and advise him on how to deal with fear (Might - Medium, Thievery - Easy). After finishing the treatment, let Mlada know and come back the next day.
If you have correctly completed most of the steps, Peter will recover, but Mlada is still hesitant about giving you the stone. Tell her that the stone can now help other people, and she will give it to you. You will finally get the stone - now you just have to decide who to give it to.
Who to give the thunderstone to?
You can give the stone to Kona, return it to Thomlin, or keep it for yourself (telling any of them that you won't give it back). Each option is associated with different rewards:
- Kona will offer you 100 groschen for the stone (you can agree or refuse). You also get a discount at the local horse seller and unlock the ability to learn the Craftsmanship skill from her husband.
- Thomlin will offer you 150 groschen in exchange for the stone, or free Unarmed training.
- If you keep the stone, you will receive a special buff by having it in your inventory. It gives you a small bonus to stamina regeneration and reduces the stamina cost of attacks and blocks.
After making the decision, the quest will end.
