Civitas Pragensis is a very short main quest in Kingdom Come 2. It consists of several conversations and one duel. On this guide page, we described whether to accept Erik's wager and how to defeat Erik in a duel.
Should I accept Erik's wager?
At the beginning of the quest, you will have to talk with your allies. While drinking with Dry Devil, you can raise a toast for a specific occasion or for everything (Drinking - Hard). After saying goodbye to the Ruthards, Kubyenka, freed from captivity, will enter the fortress with a message: Erik is challenging you to a duel and waits in Sigismund's abandoned camp. It's up to you whether you accept his wager.
- If you refuse, the quest will end right after that. You will not face any negative consequences. The wager is not a trap, though; Erik really wants a fair one-on-one duel.
- If you agree to the duel, talk to Zizka first. He will tell you that you can get under Erik's skin by mentioning Istvan. You will not receive any rewards for defeating Erik, so agree to fight only if you want to end your feud with this enemy for plot reasons. Be ready and well-armed - Erik is dangerous, and any injuries sustained will make the beginning of the next quest much more difficult.
How to defeat Erik?
When you are ready (sharpen your weapons, repair your equipment with repair kits, drink potions), talk to the guard in front of the fortress gate to automatically set off to the camp. Before the fight with Erik, you can mentally break him by mentioning the death of Istvan (Coercion - Easy). Passing this skill check will decrease Erik's statistics and make the duel easier for you.
Fighting with Erik requires above all patience and caution. Erik can perform a master strike, and he will use it if you become too aggressive. Never attack him from the direction opposite to his guard, because then you will not avoid a counterattack (e.g. if he holds the sword on his right side, do not attack from the left). Erik's biggest weakness is that he rarely changes the direction of his guard and relies on master strikes. If you don't attack, he will get impatient and attack first - which should put you in a great position to deliver your own master strike.
If you are not using a sword or are not familiar with this technique, you can break through Erik's defense by clinching with him - get as close as possible and attack him in a clinch. If Erik attacks first, you can perform a perfect block or riposte to deal him a guaranteed blow. Combos won't be very useful here, as Erik can easily break your combo with a master strike. Focus on perfect blocking, exhausting his stamina, and ripostes. Defeating Erik will complete the quest.
