Kingdom Come Deliverance 2: How does hunger and exhaustion work?
Hunger and exhaustion are negative statuses imposed on the character in KCD 2. From this tutorial page, you will learn how they affect Henry, how to get rid of them, and how to counter them in the future.
Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 focuses on a high level of realism in its gameplay. For this reason, the main character is susceptible to factors such as hunger and exhaustion. To counteract them, the player must carefully manage resources and take care of the protagonist's basic needs. On this page, you will learn how to do it.
How to deal with hunger?
To maintain full efficiency, Henry needs to eat. If you don't feed him, a round icon of a spoon and knife will appear next to the hero's health bar, which will start to slowly fill up. As the protagonist's hunger grows, he will gradually start to lose stamina. If you reach extreme starvation, Henry will start losing health points.
On the other hand, consuming too much food and drinks (including potions) at once will lead to overeating, which will also negatively affect the hero.
The level of hunger quickly increases during sleep, fast travel, and skipping time.
You can buy food at a tavern or from some traders. However, meals have an expiration date. If any dish spends too much time in your inventory, it will simply spoil. Eating spoiled food will cause Henry to get food poisoning, which will negatively affect his attributes.
The solution to the problem of spoiling food is drying the food. Dried products have a longer expiration date and can be carried in the inventory much longer. You can buy dried food from merchants or get them in the smokehouses marked on the maps. Below we present maps with all the smokehouses rooms in the game:
In cities, villages, and camps, you will often also find pots of food cooking on fire. You can freely use some of them (e.g. in lodgings), but eating a meal in a stranger's home may be met with hostility.
How to deal with exhaustion?
Another important mechanic that you need to pay attention to is the main character's fatigue. During exploration, fights, and even eating, Henry's exhaustion level will increase. Over time, a slowly filling bed icon will appear next to the health bar. The game screen will also occasionally lose sharpness, simulating the hero's tired eyesight.
Exhaustion negatively affects the protagonist's physical abilities. The debuff also reduces Speech and charisma-based abilities. In extreme cases, Henry may faint or even die from exhaustion.
To avoid the negative effects of exhaustion, it is important to get regular sleep. A high-quality bed belonging to Henry (e.g. acquired as part of a quest or rented at a lodging) will quickly regenerate the hero's strength, as well as save your progress. You can also try sleeping in strangers' beds. This activity restores fatigue more slowly, does not save the game, and can also lead to hostility from the property owner.

You can also eliminate exhaustion by visiting a bathhouse.
