Defend a settlement
How to unlock: You must complete The First Step main quest and meet with Preston Garvey (in his current residing place) or listen to Radio Freedom while near the Castle. This quest is one of the random ones.
This quest is one of many random ones related to Minutemen faction. It can be unlocked after you complete The First Step quest, speak to Preston Garvey and decide to continue the cooperation with that faction. You can be asked to help in defending one of the Minutemen's settlements (it will be randomly selected). Go to the pointed location and consider placing defensive constructions (such as turrets) before the battle starts. The settlement can be attacked by monsters, raiders or members of enemy factions. If you don't want the quest to end in failure, you cannot let all the settlers die. Once the battle is won, speak to one of the surviving settlers and then report to Preston.
Quest rewards: Experience points, bottlecaps.
Important - This quest has also a slightly different version during which instead of defending the settlement you must protect only the previously placed artillery position. This version doesn't differ from the regular one very much.

This quest is one of many random ones related to Minutemen faction and you can start it by meeting with an inhabitant of one of the settlements that are under protection of that faction. One of the settlers might ask you to save someone who was kidnapped by raiders. This quest has two possible solutions - you can give the settlers some bottlecaps needed for paying the ransom or you can go to the bandit hideout and try freeing the hostage. If you selected the second option, you must go to a randomly selected location in the game world. Save the game before entering the location as death of the hostage will mean failing the quest. Get rid of all the bandits and free the hostage. Now go back to the questgiver and report to Preston Garvey after taking the reward from the settler who gave you the quest.
