Search and Rescue is the name of the eighth chapter of Dead Space Remake. Our walkthrough shows how to solve the puzzle involving the Comms Array, the actions needed for the long-range antenna to be deployed, how to defeat the Leviathan Remnant boss, and how to reach the USM Valor airlock.
Fix the Comms Array
The chapter begins at the tram station. Interact with the tram and travel to Bridge. Once you arrive, you'll receive a call from Daniels - listen to the conversation.
You must return to the Main Atrium. There will be some necromorphs there - defeat them. Use the fact that you have a lot of space to move around to your advantage and prioritize monsters with exploding glands. Once the area is clear, go to the eastern elevator and ride to level 1.
Watch out for new monsters with tentacles attached to the wall - attack them one by one using good weapons (e.g. Line Gun) and keep a safe distance.
Clear the area and use the eastern door leading to Comms Access Storage. Approach the array console to learn what you need to do next.
Time for a puzzle involving the repair of the Comms Array. Use the airlock to enter a zero gravity room and start by eliminating necromorphs.
The puzzle involves creating a unhindered connection to the Central Node. This is done by moving and placing the satellites in the right slots - you can grab and move them using Kinesis. Your progress is shown in the middle screen - the red point is the place where you need to supply electricity.
Here is the walkthrough for the puzzle:
- Remove orange satellites from their slots - they are inactive and cannot convey electricity.
- Place the blue satellites in the right slots. The important assumption here is that each blue satellite has a visible white connection which shows the direction they "send" electricity. This means that you cannot place blue satellites in random slots. Each of them must connect with next part of the connection.
Create an unhindered, optimal connection to the central point - we show it in the screenshot above (the connection runs zig-zag, not in a straight line).
Once the puzzle is completed, leave the zero gravity room, return to the Comms Access Storage room and interact with the terminal to activate the Comms Array.
Deploy the Antenna
Proceed through the newly unlocked pathway (north side of the Comms Access Storage) and move the chests blocking the way using Kinesis. You'll reach Maintenance Gondola.
When fighting a larger necromorph, watch out for smaller monsters. Ride the elevator to Comms Maintenance. The attempt to deploy the Antenna will be interrupted by the appearance of Leviathan Remnant - a boss battle awaits.
Destroy the Leviathan Remnant
Search the corridor leading to the airlocks, as there are a lot of supplies there. Look especially for ammunition so you can fight at longer distances. The battle itself takes place in open space.
You will defeat the boss using 3 ADS cannons. You can control them as you did in chapter 4. Reach the central cannon first. You need to:
- interact with the terminal;
- hold down the aiming button (L2/LT on the controller);
- give commands to fire the cannon (interaction button - A on PlayStation, X on Xbox);
aim at the orange parts of the boss - you must first destroy the outer shell, then you will be able to hit the part of the Leviathan's body;
the boss will try to attack Isaac with its legs and, just like in the first fight, these attacks are signaled - fly quickly to the side and continue shooting at Leviathan as soon as possible; Keep shooting until the middle part of the Leviathan's body is destroyed.
You can now fly right or left.
If you fly to the right, make sure you destroy the growth and reveal the oxygen replenishment station. Don't forget about this and return to the station when you have less than 20 seconds left.
There is a new ADS cannon in the area - use it to attack the right side of the Leviathan.
Leviathan can use new types of attacks:
- swing its legs - try to fly over it so as not to get hit;
- release "mines" - fly away from them or destroy them, e.g. with the Pulse Rifle;
- shoot orange projectiles - just like in the first fight, you can grab them with kinesis and throw at the boss.
If you fly left, you must destroy the growths to expose the left ADS cannon. Only then will it be possible to use it to fire at the left part of the boss.
There is also a second oxygen refill station next to the left cannon.
Leviathan will eventually destroy the ADS cannons and it will probably happen before you defeat the monster. You then have to rely on more conventional methods:
- catch the projectiles spit out by the boss to throw them away;
- shoot at Leviathan's weak points with your weapons, e.g. Pulse Rifle or Plasma Cutter.
You defeat the Leviathan Remnant by destroying its 3 orange body parts. You can now get back to the airlock - return to the Comms Maintenance and make an attempt to deploy the antenna.
Go to the USM Valor Airlock
After the ships collide, return to the airlock which you've used to enter the boss arena.
This time, fly towards USM Valor. The USM Valor airlock is next to a large name of the ship. Enter the airlock to begin Chapter 9 of the campaign.
