Subnautica: Mountains - biome guide
Last update:
The mountains are an underwater mountain range, whose highest peak emerges from the sea and forms the Mountain Island area. The zone lies near the Underwater Islands, Kelp Forest, Mushroom Forest and Bulb Zone. Due to the highly diverse topography, you may have some difficulties in navigating this area.
This biome contains deposits of shale, sandstone, quartz, and salt. It is also densely covered in hydrothermal spots. There's also a wreck, from which you can acquire some pieces of technology. The submerged part of the Mountain Island contains a structure from the Containment Facility.
This area is extremely dangerous, providing a habitat to numerous Warpers. Most of them are concentrated around the Mountain Island area. They are not the main threat in this biome, though. A large number of Reaper Leviathans is your biggest problem. Due to the complicated topography and significant Reaper presence, it's easy to stumble on one of them when evading another specimen.
In short, this zone is dangerous and its exploration should be limited to acquiring blueprints and exploring the Containment Facility. If you plan on building a base in this area, your best option will be the part near the border of Bulb Zone, where the Reaper presence and activity is not as prominent.
