Time to get back to the ocean. This Subnautica - Below Zero guide is a complete database containing information regarding all the major aspects of the title, including the encountered biomes, finding resources, and survival. The walkthrough also offers tips and answers to any question that may arise while exploring the depths of the Arctic ocean.

Subnautica: Below Zero - introduction

Subnautica: Below Zero mixes the elements of an action game and a survival game. The action takes place two years after the events seen in the previous installment. During those two years, Alterra has established an outpost on the planet's orbit and begun researching the planet. In Below Zero, you assume the role of Robin Goodall - an employee of a research station established in the arctic section of 4546B. After the station gets destroyed, she is forced to survive at the sea, full of various dangers. This mission will enable her to learn the secrets of this sub-zero world.

Your main task is to survive. To do that, the player explores an open world build from various biomes, searching for resources that will guarantee survival. At the same time, the heroine studies the history of 4546B. The game is characteristic for the freedom it gives the player - you can freely explore the world and all its intricacies, in any way you see fit.

Starting Tips

As in case of every other game, the beginning is very essential to your future efforts. Below, you'll find basic tips that will help you in the initial stages of your journey on the arctic side of planet 4546B.

  1. Watch out for ice - From time to time, you need to return to the surface to refill your oxygen supply. Doing that, remember that you are in an arctic area. There are numerous floes floating across the surface of the ocean. You need to be careful and avoid hitting any of them.
  2. Build a grav trap - When you unlock the Scanner, make sure to unlock the blueprint for grav trap as quickly as possible - Its fragments can be found in Shallow Twisty Bridges zone.
  3. Avoid deeper caves - In the initial stages of the game, your oxygen supply and mobility are limited. Without upgrades for the oxygen tank and Seaglide scooter, it is best to avoid deeper caves - while inside, you cannot return to the surface to refill your air supply.
  4. You lose stuff after dying - Your health can be seen in the bottom left part of the screen. If the bar reaches zero, it means that you're dead. Dying deprives you of some of your items, which will be removed from your inventory. For that reason, always have a supply of food and water. Worst case scenario, you can always return to your body to return for the lost stuff.
  5. Take a closer look - In Below Zero, most items are found at the bottom of the ocean, often hidden in the grass. If you won't look for them closely, you'll be sure to miss them.
  6. Research an O2 tank as quickly as possible - The basic tank offers a very limited supply of oxygen, insufficient for exploration. To counter that, invest in a Standard O2 Tank as quickly as possible. The upgrade increases the supply of oxygen and is available from the beginning of the game.
